SIMON MIKAZUCHI - Fairy Tail

SIMON (シモン SHIMON) was a member of Team Jellal, a group of former child slaves attempting to rebuild the Tower of Paradise, also known as System R.

He was also Kagura’s older brother. He died protecting Erza Scarlet from Jellal Fernandes.

APPARITION

Simon was an imposing young man, tall and muscular, with arms and hands that seemed even bigger than his extremely slender legs. During his time at Paradise Tower, although he wasn’t as tall or muscular as he would later be, he was better proportioned. He had slightly long black hair with two prominent bangs curled outwards at the front, partially framing his face. Simon had dark eyes, a broad, rectangular face with a flat nose and prominent jaw. During the Paradise Tower revolt, while still a child, Simon was struck in the face by a magical explosion, which partially disfigured him.

His left eye was covered by a dark eye patch held in place by a thin rope, with a thin scar running diagonally down his cheek. His jaw was concealed by an armored metal plate adorned with nails on top and side projections resembling a skeletal jaw. He wore a light turban on top of his head, with long wraps hanging around his neck.

As a child, Simon wore the clothes of a Paradise Tower slave, with a sleeveless shirt and light pants held together by a rope belt. As a member of the Jellal team, Simon had a distinct outfit: his muscular body was partially covered by a large light cloth passing over his left shoulder and tied at his waist. He also wore a dark sleeve on his left arm, with light stripes running vertically down it.

PERSONALITY

When he was young, Simon was kind and thoughtful to his friends, especially Erza, for whom he had amorous feelings. He was jealous of Erza’s relationship with Jellal and even asked her if she was in love with him during a battle.
As a member of Team Jellal, Simon displayed a cold, detached demeanor, showing little emotion and ready to help Jellal carry out his plan, even at the expense of Erza’s life. However, he had actually understood Jellal’s true intentions and was pretending to follow him. Simon was logical and cautious, carefully assessing situations before taking action and choosing retreat or flight when faced with a too-strong opponent. He was prepared to wait a long time to put his plans into action in the interests of his friends and allies.

HISTORY

Simon lived a happy life with his younger sister Kagura Mikazuchi in the village of Rosemary, where Erza also grew up. As a child, he was kidnapped and enslaved to build System R, also known as the Paradise Tower.
During his imprisonment, Simon befriended Erza, Jellal, Wolly, Miliana and Shaw as they endured the cruelties of their captors. After Jellal’s capture, Erza inspired the other slaves to revolt. Simon lost the sight in his left eye during this battle. Despite the sacrifices, the slaves managed to escape from the island. However, Jellal, now controlled by “Zeleph”, destroyed the boat carrying them and pretended it was Erza’s work to convince them to stay and complete the tower. But Simon didn’t believe Jellal’s ruse, because he knew Erza wouldn’t do such a thing. Eight years later, the tower was completed.

MAGIC AND CAPABILITIES

Dark Magic (闇の魔法 Yami no Mahō): Simon used an exclusive and particular form of Dark Magic, exploiting the physical aspect of the magic itself rather than the ghostly apparitions usually associated with it.
Fugitive Night (闇刹那 Yami Setsuna): Simon was able to suppress all lights in a wide radius, plunging the area into total darkness. This disoriented and disadvantaged his opponents, while allowing Simon and his allies to move easily in the darkness.

However, opponents able to see in the dark were not affected by this spell. To cast Nuit Fugitive, Simon gestured with his arms, moving his hands with index and middle fingers extended and other fingers bent.

Dark Explosion: Simon could summon his magical seal and unleash a powerful explosion capable of destroying a bar.

Telepathy (念話テレパシー Terepashī) : Simon was able to communicate with others at a distance by thought. He would place the outstretched index and middle fingers of his left hand on the side of his head to make mental contact.

Endurance: Simon was extremely resilient. He survived a magical explosion that disfigured him, a piercing chest attack and a powerful spell from an opponent before succumbing to his wounds.

Enhanced strength: Simon was endowed with great physical strength, as evidenced by his muscular build. He could hurl Jubia several meters with a simple slap of his left hand, shattering the counter she was sitting on.

Vivid intellect: Despite his imposing appearance, Simon was intelligent and hard to fool. He quickly figured out Jellal’s manipulations, unmasking his deception and using Grey’s clone Fullbuster to fake his death and gather powerful mages to counter Jellal’s plans.
