Our world-famous hero, Goku, has faced many trials and formidable adversaries in the Dragon Ball universe. However, only a few of his enemies can boast a perfect record against this Saiyan hero. ⭐

Indeed, there have indeed been characters in the anime who have managed to defeat Goku. In many cases, Goku was able to take his revenge and triumph over these opponents in later battles, but this was not always the case. When Goku didn’t have the opportunity to face an opponent again, another member of the Z-Fighters stepped in to save the day. 💨

Without further ado, let’s now find out who has already surpassed Goku at some point in the history of the Dragon Ball saga! If you can’t wait to find out, don’t delay in devouring our article! 📖

GOKU, A POWERFUL WARRIOR

Who's Stronger Than Goku?
Before sketching a relatively unflattering portrait of Goku, it’s important to lay the groundwork. Over the years, Goku has thwarted the diabolical plans of numerous threats! With the help of his friends and fellow fighters, Krilin, Gohan and Yajirobe, Goku prevented Nappa and Vegeta from achieving their goals on Earth at the start of the Z saga. Later, Goku became a Super Saiyan for the first time and defeated Freezer, the most powerful villain in the galaxy at the time. ❄

Then, after his death at the end of the Cell saga, Goku used the Spirit Bomb technique to defeat Kid Boo and helped save the planet on several occasions in Dragon Ball Super by taking on villains such as Golden Freezer and Zamasu. Despite all these exploits, there were times when Goku could not be considered the hero of the story, as he is not the only hero capable of fighting in the Dragon Ball universe.

When necessary, characters such as Vegeta, Gohan and Piccolo seized the opportunity to shine by taking on the villains in situations where Goku had been excluded from the equation. This was demonstrated in Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super. It’s important to note that this article doesn’t take into account the enemies Goku never fought, but rather focuses on the villains who confronted Goku but didn’t defeat him. That’s what we’re going to find out below! 😨

GOKU VS RADITZ: RADITZ THE EMPORTER

At the start of DBZ, Goku finally discovered the truth about his Saiyan heritage when it was revealed to him by his evil brother, Raditz. This Freezer Force member and Saiyan warrior proved stronger than Goku himself, despite all the fighting experience he’d gained growing up alongside Kame Sennin in Dragon Ball. 🥊
This led to a memorable scene in which Raditz stood tall, towering over Goku with his foot on the hero’s chest. Later, Goku teamed up with Piccolo to take on his brother, but still failed to defeat him. Seeing a second defeat as inevitable, Goku and Piccolo devised a last-ditch strategy to get rid of him once and for all. Goku grabbed Raditz and Piccolo eliminated them both with his iconic technique. 😣

Raditz’s arrival could be considered a major turning point in Goku’s arc. However, although Raditz’s arrival marked a major turning point in Dragon Ball history – marking the transition to Dragon Ball Z – Goku’s character doesn’t change radically until he sacrifices himself to ensure that Piccolo kills Raditz with his famous Special Beam Cannon.

Death transforms Goku’s vision of life. It introduces him to a much wider world, giving him a broader perspective of the universe. It also pushes Goku to reach almost cosmic levels of power, thanks to his training with King Kai. It is thanks to the latter that Goku concentrates more on increasing his power and on intense battles of energy beams. It was here that Goku learned Kaio-Ken and Spirit Bomb techniques. Goku had already become the most powerful fighter on the planet, but King Kai showed him new heights he could reach.

GOKU VS VEGETA: VEGETA THE EMPORTER

Vegeta is considered Goku’s greatest rival. He’s one of the saga’s main characters who always remains a notch below Goku in terms of power, and this has always been the case over time. While this is certainly true of the Saiyan Prince, it’s worth noting that Goku has never actually beaten him, and has even been knocked out by his best enemy. 🥊
In the Saiyan saga, Goku was on the verge of defeating him, but Vegeta avoided this fatal outcome by transforming himself into an impressive giant ape (Oozaru transformation), as his tail had not been cut off, unlike Son Goku’s. Thus, Goku was defeated by Vegeta as Golden Oozaru, forcing the other Z-Warriors to take over. Goku, seriously wounded, was only a spectator for the rest of the fight, while Yajirobe finally managed to cut off the transformed prince’s tail. Gohan and Krilin then continued the fight, attacking a weakened Vegeta. 🔪

The conflict later ended, granting Vegeta an unexpected opportunity to escape. In the Freezer and Cell sagas, Vegeta then became a valuable ally for Goku’s gang, but he became evil again in the Boo saga when the sorcerer Babidi amplified his power and marked him with his seal, awakening the malice and jealousy towards Goku that lay dormant within him. Under the name of Majin Vegeta, Vegeta managed to defeat Goku without suspecting that the latter still had a reserve of power. Goku probably could have beaten him with his Super Saiyan 3 form, but he chose to save that transformation for later, increasing the suspense! 😊

GOKU VS GINYU: GINYU’S VICTORY

The Ginyu Commando is an elite group of mercenaries serving King Freezer in the Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Z Kai series. It is made up of five powerful warriors: Recoome, Butta, Jeese, Guildo and their leader, Captain Ginyu. They are the secondary antagonists of the Namek saga, while Freezer’s army is the main antagonist group. They are also Freezer’s henchmen, whom the Z-Fighters must face before taking on the fearsome king. 💥
Recoome, Butta and Jeese of the Ginyu Commando were no match for Goku on planet Namek, but their leader’s power was another story. Captain Ginyu issued a challenge to Goku, but it became clear from the start that Goku had the advantage and would have won the fight had it continued in the same way. Recognizing this, Ginyu changed the course of the battle by deliberately injuring himself and using his special power to swap bodies with Goku. In Ginyu’s body, Goku found himself at a disadvantage and victory eluded him. Finally, Vegeta stopped Ginyu and forced him into the body of a frog. 🐸

It’s important to note, however, that during his confrontation with Captain Ginyu of Freezer’s army, Goku hadn’t yet learned how to become a Super Saiyan. Despite this, Goku kept Ginyu in check and the fight was close. The two opponents were giving each other a hard time, and it even looked for a moment as if the future Saiyan warrior would win the battle, but the turnaround was surprising and swift.

GOKU VS C-19: VICTORY FOR C-19

Goku played a less important role than usual in the saga’s story whenDr. Gero’s androids made their appearance in Dragon Ball Z. After receiving a warning from Trunks of the Future that the Earth would soon be destroyed by androids, the Z-Warriors trained intensively, knowing that two android enemies were on their way. When the dreaded day finally arrived, the androids C-19 and C-20 defeated Yamcha and then turned their attention to Goku. In his face-off against Android 19, Goku’s Super Saiyan form seemed to give him a physical advantage, but due to a virus he had contracted, a kind of heart disease, he found himself weakened in the middle of the fight. 💉
The fight continued as best it could, but C-19’s ability to absorb Goku’s energy exhausted him further. Before Goku could be killed, Vegeta intervened and revealed that he too had learned to transform into a Super Saiyan. Thanks to his new power, he managed to defeat both androids. As Goku needed time to recover and train, he remained in the background until the end of the conflict with the androids, so he didn’t have a major role to play for once in Akira Toriyama’s story. Thus, it was Vegeta and Piccolo who took charge of androids 17 and 18. Goku didn’t fight any of them until Dragon Ball Super. 💨

GOKU VS CELL: CELL’S VICTORY

Given that Piccolo, Vegeta, Tenshinhan and Trunks of the Future had already fought Cell with all their might, the most eagerly awaited fight of the Cell Games was naturally that between Goku and Cell. However, the Z-Warriors’ expectations were not fulfilled. In the middle of his confrontation with the villain, Goku suddenly ended the fight and admitted to all present that he couldn’t win. It was at this point that Gohan was chosen to replace him in the fight, as Goku understood that only Gohan possessed the physical abilities necessary to reach the Super Saiyan 2 stage and defeat Cell once and for all. Years after Cell’s death, Goku finally surpassed him, but they never faced each other again. He almost got his chance for revenge in the Beyond, but Pikkon defeated Cell before Goku could join the fray.

GOKU VS MAJIN BOO: MAJIN BOO’S VICTORY

Goku managed to defeat Kid Boo at the end of Dragon Ball Z, but he couldn’t overcome the first version of the villain. Facing Majin Boo, Goku reached the stage of Super Saiyan 3 and gave Majin Boo the toughest fight of his life. But as powerful as he had become, Goku knew he didn’t have much time left on Earth. 🌍
Goku had died during the story and had only a short time to return to Earth. What’s more, Majin Boo’s regenerative abilities prevented him from sustaining any serious injuries. Seeing that he couldn’t win, Goku chose to ensure that Goten and Trunks would be able to succeed where he and Vegeta had sadly failed. 😫

GOKU VS FROST: FROST’S VICTORY

During Dragon Ball Super’s Universe 6 arc, the Universe 7 warrior team of Beerus, Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo and Monaka faced a variety of opponents including Botamo, Auta Magetta, Frost, Cabba and Hit. Goku was chosen for the first fight against Botamo. After defeating him, he found himself facing Frost, Universe 6’s equivalent of Freezer. Initially seen as an altruistic hero, Frost turned out to be just as deceitful and deceitful as his counterpart. He used a toxic weapon concealed on his body to eliminate Goku from the ring without giving him the chance to unleash his full power. The Saiyan thus unjustly lost the fight. Frost was disqualified after using the same tactic against Piccolo, but he still faced Vegeta who easily defeated him. 🥋

Frost returned as a Universe 6 fighter at the Tournament of Power. Although he fought some members of Universe 7, he avoided Goku himself, perhaps intentionally. Frost concentrated on eliminating weaker opponents such as Krilin, and took on heroes like Master Roshi and Gohan. However, he was eliminated from the tournament by Freezer due to another issue. 😏

GOKU VERSUS KALE: KALE COULD HAVE WON

Kale may be one of the few Saiyans capable of attaining the legendary Super Saiyan form, but she’s unlikely to rival Goku’s level. However, during the Super saga, Goku, despite his lifelong training, was beaten and humiliated by this young Saiyan who didn’t even know her powers before the Tournament of Power. The way she outclassed Goku using her Super Saiyan Blue form didn’t bode well for our favorite hero! 😥
To defeat this formidable opponent, Goku had to deploy the power of Ultra Instinct.

GOKU VERSUS BEERUS: BEERUS’S VICTORY

In Dragon Ball Super, the God of Destruction, Beerus, is a charismatic new character. In this series, Beerus searched for a being called Super Saiyan God, which led him to Earth.
Eventually, after discovering the existence of this being thanks to Shenron, Goku transformed into Super Saiyan God and fought Beerus. Although he felt stronger than ever, Goku was soundly defeated. Beerus didn’t even need to use half his power, which was quite humiliating for Goku. 😂

By the way, if you’re a Dragon Ball Super fan, you can find the exclusive Goku Ultra Instinct Figurine at Goku Shop! 🌟

GOKU VERSUS GOLDEN FREEZER: GOLDEN FREEZER’S VICTORY

Freezer’s resurrection seemed disconnected and illogical from the other sagas, until Goku and the Evil Emperor decided to show fans some of their newly mastered techniques. Goku unveiled his Super Saiyan Blue form, while Freezer transformed into a brand-new golden form, the Golden Freezer. Yet despite Goku’s dominance, his ignorance and arrogance led to defeat. Freezer, a clever strategist, took advantage of the situation to claim an undeserved victory. 🏆

GOKU VERSUS GOKU BLACK: GOKU BLACK’S VICTORY

In DBS, Goku Black was a vastly underrated villain. He was a deity in Saiyan skin, which meant his power increased with every battle. When Trunks, Goku and Vegeta went to the future to fight him, he defeated them with disconcerting ease. His victory was so overwhelming that Goku, Vegeta and the Trunks of the Future had to go back and prepare for a chance to fight him. Goku Black appeared invincible before merging with Zamasu. 💥

GOKU VERSUS CELL JR. CELL JR.’S VICTORY

Goku’s most humiliating defeat came at the hands of Cell Parfait and his henchmen, the Cell Jr. These little blue creatures looked harmless, but they were incredibly powerful. Neither Goku nor Vegeta could master them. Goku was disconcertingly defeated, and for the first time in a long time, it looked like he wouldn’t be able to perform a miracle. So this ugly little blue creature got the better of a Saiyan, which is truly shameful and humiliating for Son Goku, our beloved hero! 😥

GOKU VERSUS JIREN: JIREN’S VICTORY

In a memorable battle, Goku and Jiren showed why they were among the most powerful mortals in the Dragon Ball multiverse. Their long-awaited clash lived up to the expectations of saga fans, pushing them both to their limits. Goku mastered his Ultra Instinct form, while Jiren had to deploy all his strength against a tough opponent for the first time in his life. 🧘🏻‍♂️
Goku finally became so powerful that he had completely surpassed Jiren. However, his body couldn’t handle the power and he gave up at the last second, instantly losing all his accumulated energy. Even Jiren admitted he didn’t want the fight to end this way. A rematch between these two mortals is therefore inevitable! 👊🏻
