TOBY OLOLTA - Fairy Tail

TOBY OLOLTA (トビー・オルオルタ TOBĪ ORUORUTA) IS A MAGE OF THE GUILD LAMIA SCALE WHICH HE LEFT TO JOIN LEON AND HIS PROJECT TO DESTROY THE MONSTER DELIORA.

APPARENCE

Toby is a young man of medium height, lean and slightly muscular, with distinctive animal features: he has a pair of canine ears on his head, a small dark nose and the bottom of his face is colored differently from the rest of his body, resembling a dog’s snout. It’s unclear whether these features are meant to represent a dog; however, we do know that they are purely decorative, as Toby himself explained to Yuka Suzuki. He has straight, shoulder-length brown hair, large round eyes with black pupils and dark eyebrows. Both his biceps are tattooed: the right one bears the kana (hiragana) Sashimi (さしみ), while the other was adorned with a unique and more elaborate tattoo, which he later changed to the crest of the guild Toby returned to, Lamia Scale. The seven-year leap hasn’t altered Toby’s appearance much, the only differences being slightly more developed muscles and a slightly more elongated face.
Toby is often seen shirtless. Initially, he wore very loose pants with slightly torn hems, held together by a long belt covered with numerous rhombuses, with a single rectangular buckle hanging down. On the right knee of these pants was a large dark shield-shaped logo representing a stylized skull with ears similar to Toby’s, and a pair of crossed bones underneath, probably shins. The whole symbol was strongly reminiscent of a Jolly Roger. Toby also wore a red collar covered with hollow nails around his neck, as well as a pair of simple dark shoes, each adorned with a light, stylized imprint, resembling that of a cat or perhaps a small dog.

After the return of the Fairy Tail members who were stranded on Tenrô island, Toby is shown wearing less baggy pants, paired with a light-colored belt to which is attached a dark cloth with light-colored edges hanging down the front. Dark leggings with light edges are attached to the fabric by two horizontal semicircular bands, held on either side by buttons, covering Toby’s legs from the ankles to the upper thighs. He seems to have kept his old collar, but has added a long chain hanging from his chest, to which is attached a dark sock with light parts (completely white in the anime). Toby is completely unaware of the presence of this object on him and therefore walks around with a matching sock on his right foot, while his left foot is bare, with no other footwear. He is also shown with a pair of plain green sunglasses resting on his forehead.

PERSONALITY

Toby has a few special character traits. He has a habit of often saying “Oooon” casually, even when greeting others or as a kind of comment. He also has a tendency to get angry and shout at others for trivial reasons. He seems to be easily fooled, as when he was stung by Natsu with his fingernails, but he’s also proud and confident in his abilities: after defeating Yuka, he openly claimed to be stronger than him. When he does something wrong, he tries to keep it secret by asking the person to whom he revealed it not to tell others. Toby doesn’t seem to be very smart, ignoring the fact that the sock he’d been looking for for three months was clinging to his own chest. He claims it’s his “super secret” and claims he hid it from the others, even though it was obvious because he was walking with one bare foot. This deeply intrigued him and made him desperate; when he finally retrieved the much-desired sock, he was overwhelmed by tears of joy, which turned to tears of sadness when the sock itself was destroyed by Kurohebi.

History

The only known story about him is that his family was one of the victims of the demon Deliora. That’s why he joined Leon in the hope of destroying the demon once and for all.
APTITUDE AND SKILLS
Paralyzing nails: Toby uses his poisonous green claws to attack his enemies. The poison is so powerful that he can paralyze his opponents in battle.
