Tia Harribel, also called Tia Hallibel in the English dubbing, was an Arrancar in Sōsuke Aizen’s army, and she was the former Espada Tres (Three).
After being killed by Aizen, she was saved by Muerte Guerrero, who went back in time to retrieve her on Kirei Satoshi’s orders.

She is now affiliated with Muerte Guerrero and the Kirei Satoshi Liberation Army. She was recruited because of her knowledge of Aizen Sosuke and the previous generation of Soul Society. She is known to all as Empress Shark (サメは女帝, Same wa nyotei). She’s also one of the main anti-heroines in Shadow Rage’s Bleach – Generation III story Bleach – Chronicles of the Soul and, as such, plays an important role in the events to come.
Harribel has dark skin, green eyes, blond eyelashes and short, tousled blond hair with three braided locks. She wears a variant of the Arrancar jacket that covers the lower part of her face downwards, while enveloping much of the lower half of her bust. Unlike other Arrancars, her jacket has a full-length zipper, opening from the bottom up (in the anime, this outfit is extended to cover her breasts completely, with a black stripe showing where the jacket’s original opening was). The jacket’s sleeves wrap completely around her arms, ending in black glove-like extensions at the ends, giving her fingers the slight appearance of cat’s claws. Harribel carries his Zanpakutō horizontally on his back (like Soifon). The sword itself is particularly broad and short compared to the others, and has a Western-style guard.
The remnants of her Hollow mask are found on the sides of her face and around her mouth, as well as in a large area under and around her neck, reaching down to and covering her nipples as well; she usually conceals these Hollow remnants from view with her jacket (in the anime, the remnants are extended to cover the underside of her breasts due to censorship). Harribel’s mask fragment gives her a similar appearance to Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez, at least as far as the teeth are concerned. To date, she possesses the most intact mask of all the Arrancar, with the exception of the Great Fisher, which is incomplete (although the mask was removed upon her release by Zanpakutō).
PERSONALITY
Harribel rarely speaks, and when she does, she adopts a rather serious tone. For example, she explains to her Fracción that fear in the face of an Espada’s released form is a natural reaction. She also felt that the fight between Ichigo Kurosaki and Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez was more than just a confrontation, but rather a clash between two Espada. When not engaged in a fight, she tends to cross her arms.
Compared to her fellow wolves, who are often arrogant, boastful, impulsive, bloodthirsty and selfish, Harribel stands out for her calm, receptive and analytical mind. She prefers to avoid combat, contenting herself with silently observing confrontations until their conclusion. In fact, she only fights when challenged or attacked by an opponent, or when ordered to do so by her superiors (although she seems reluctant to take orders from a higher-ranking Espada). However, when Aizen betrays her, Harribel reacts angrily and attacks her, demonstrating that she can be aggressive and ruthless when provoked, unlike her previous battles against Hitsugaya, Lisa and Hiyori. Because of her gender and rank within the Espada, Harribel often attracts unwanted attention from others. Nnoitra Jiruga tries to provoke her during an Espada meeting with acerbic comments. She also arouses the interest of Captain Shunsui Kyōraku, to the point where he mentions his (rather positive) opinion of her abilities to his opponent.
Before the intrusion of Ichigo Kurosaki and his friends into Las Noches, Harribel is often seen in the company of Aizen and the other Espada, whether in Aizen’s throne room, the briefing room or the room housing the Hōgyoku. However, like the other Espada, she has her own quarters. Whenever she is present, Aizen usually addresses the group using terms such as “Ladies and Gentlemen of the Espada” or “brothers and sisters”, probably to distinguish her, being the only woman. She has a high regard for Aizen and his powers, and this seems to be reciprocated to some extent, as Aizen is hardly concerned about the idea of his three most powerful Espada taking on a numerically superior force of six Shinigami captains, without her help.
In a strange way, Harribel seems to care about her enemies. This becomes apparent when she observes the fight between Ichigo and Grimmjow, where she perceives fluctuations in Ichigo’s reiatsu, and then questions Hitsugaya about it after their own confrontation. Unlike most of her comrades, Harribel is concerned about her Fracción, as evidenced by her distress when she feels their presence diminishing, and later, when she violently attacks Hitsugaya seconds after her subordinates defeat Captain-Commander Yamamoto.
HISTORY
Shortly after leaving Soul Society, Aizen personally recruited Harribel. At the time, his form mostly resembled his liberated state, but most of his body and face were covered in white hollow bones. His hair and eyes, however, were visible.
She took part in the Winter War in the fake city of Karakura against Gotei 13, and her opponent at the time was Captain Hitsugaya Toshiro. As a powerful fighter, she was able to stand up effortlessly to a captain of the Shinigami class. For most of their clash, Harribel could match every blow landed, using her resureccion to counter Hitsugaya’s bankai and ice attacks, both of which were elemental in nature similar to their zanpakuto.
In the final stages of the fight, two vice-captains, Hiyori Sarugaki and Lisa Yadōmaru, joined the battle. Harribel managed to fend off the three opponents for some time. However, something unexpected happened when she was betrayed by her commander, Aizen Sosuke. As he watched their battle, Aizen suddenly appeared behind Harribel. She turned, becoming aware of his presence as he approached her, and before she could react, he slashed her chest. Shocked, Harribel hears Aizen tell her that he is finished with her, as he seems to feel that she is not powerful enough to continue fighting for him. Filled with rage, Harribel retaliates by stabbing him through the chest with her sword.
Aizen’s expression doesn’t change, as he declares that caring for her is such a pain, which surprises Harribel. She then realizes that she has attacked an illusion and been stabbed in the back of her left shoulder by the real Aizen. He then declares that he will never allow her to raise her sword against him again and withdraws his weapon, causing Harribel to plunge into the town below. As she fell towards the town below, she lay on the verge of succumbing to her wounds, when suddenly a mysterious figure appeared. It was the future Espada Muerte Guerrero, who had used his power of time manipulation to come to the past and take them both to the future, saving Harribel and his fraccion from their doom. After some time, she awoke in a strange room, distraught, and examined her wounds to find that they had healed, and her midsection, which had been cut, was bandaged. She was then greeted by Muerte, who assured her that she was safe and that there was nothing to worry about. He explained that they were currently in the human world. Harribel angrily asked who he was and how she’d ended up here, recalling Aizen’s betrayal.
Muerte then explained that she’d been brought back from the past to another time, and that the war with Aizen hadn’t been over for years. Although he didn’t go into much detail about it, she got the gist. Then she was approached by Kirei Satoshi, who gave her an ultimatum: either she joined his renegade army, or she would be sent back in time to die a pointless death. After thinking about it for a while, she finally accepted his offer, but she remained wary of the situation and didn’t trust him so easily. She thanked Muerte for saving her life and asked him what had become of her fraccion, to which he replied that they were safe and recovering from their injuries. She was relieved to know they were safe and was now ready to hear his offer and current plans.
