The spider demon (mother) (蜘く蛛も鬼おに「母はは」 Kumo oni: Haha?) was part of the spider family.
Appearance
Mother Demon Spider was a petite, voluptuous woman of about thirty (or the demonic equivalent). She resembled her “son” Rui, with milky-white skin, teal-colored eyelashes and nails, and red, circular markings on her face. She wore a long, multi-layered kimono, brown on the inside and white on the outside, revealing part of her chest. Her kimono was fastened with a patterned belt. She also wore a teal and violet pearl necklace and decorative anklets. Her feet were bare and she wore black nail polish. However, it was revealed that this was not her true appearance. His body had been altered to resemble Rui’s. His true appearance was completely different, with a much smaller, more childlike body. Her skin was marked with two brown lines on each cheek, and her eyes were round with yellow irises and X-shaped pupils. She wore short black clothes and sunglasses. Her black hair was short, parted to the side, with bangs framing her face and two small, low braids.
Personality
Like most demons, Mother Demon Spider was cruel, insensitive and murderous towards humans. After spending time with Rui, she began to fear Father Demon Spider, who abused her because of her weakness. The abuse was so severe that she would rather die than continue to live under their yoke. In her final moments, she regained some of her feelings and memories as a human. She was touched by Tanjiro’s kindness and helped him by warning him of the presence of a Demonic Twelve Moon on the mountain, wishing him good luck before she died.
It was later revealed that she was technically the youngest demon in her “family” and was still dealing with her old human feelings and memories, which made her cry and suffer. That’s why Rui scolded her severely for her inability to be a good “mother” to her “children”, all of whom were technically older than her.
History
Little is known about Mother Spider Demon’s past as a human, but she was loved and cherished by someone, a young woman with a brown haori and black hair styled in a low cut with a ponytail. In her final moments, she seemed to remember being loved and cherished by this person.
After becoming a demon and losing the person she loved (probably in bloody circumstances), she settled on Mount Natagumo. Later, Rui came to Mount Natagumo, persuaded her to join him and forced her future “family” to transform to look like him. She took on the role of mother to this false family, but as a demon child, she was incapable of fulfilling this role. She was scolded and abused by Rui and the Spider Demon Father.
Synopsis
Natagumo Mountain Arch
Rui entrusts his “Mother” with the task of protecting Natagumo Mountain and her “family” from demon slayers. She settles on a huge boulder in the middle of a clearing and uses her spider threads to control the demon slayers who enter the territory, turning them into her own puppets. She enjoys playing with the demon slayers she controls and uses some of them to kill the others.
Tanjiro and his friends enter the mountain to defeat her and her family. They are greeted by her puppets, who are dead demon slayers. However, the puppets are easily defeated and Inosuke spots her position.
As they close in on her, Mother’s strings become stronger and her puppets (still-living demon slayers) more powerful. She is confronted by Rui, who asks if she can win and urges her to hurry. Panic-stricken, she knows full well that there is a huge power gap between her and Rui, despite their supposed “mother-son” relationship. Rui then threatens to inform the Spider Demon Father if she doesn’t quickly kill the remaining demon slayers, which sends her into a state of panic.
In this state of panic, Mother Demon Spider uses the demon slayers who are still alive, but severely wounded, to fight and inflict psychological damage on the duo. She also pushes the controlled demon slayers to their physical limit, subjecting them to immense pain. In particular, she manipulates a young woman named Ozaki with her sons into attacking the duo. Ozaki, in tears, cries out all the information she can remember about their situation and begs Tanjiro to go and get help.
Tanjiro, not wanting to kill Ozaki and his comrades, finds a way to immobilize them without killing them. Using his wires, Tanjiro catches and throws the controlled demon slayers towards the trees, where the wires become entangled in the branches and prevent them from moving further. Considering them useless to her, Mother Demon Spider snaps the necks of all the captured demon slayers, including Ozaki, and brings out her most powerful puppet as she sinks into an even more intense state of panic. In a state of borderline hysteria, she releases and reveals her most powerful puppet: a headless demon corpse she’s collected. She then throws it into battle against Inosuke and Tanjiro. When the duo see it, they are surprised by its lack of neck. They begin to attack him, but their attacks prove ineffective. They then decide to launch a combined attack that manages to defeat him.
Immediately afterwards, Inosuke propels Tanjiro into the heavens towards the location of the Mother Demon Spider. As she fears defeat and punishment from her “family”, the Spider Demon Mother notices Tanjiro diving towards her from the heavens. Seeking a way to survive, she realizes that his death would finally bring her peace, sparing her the anger and contempt of her “family”.
Having abandoned all resistance and will to fight, Mother Spider Demon raises her arms in the air, waiting to be struck by Tanjiro’s attack. Realizing that she no longer intends to fight, Tanjiro finally puts her to death using Water Breathing: Fifth Form – Blessed Rain after Drought, instead of the initially planned First Form: Water Surface Trench. He chooses to use a “benevolent sword stroke” that decapitates his target with little or no pain, a technique used when the enemy voluntarily surrenders in order to grant him a merciful death.
After being decapitated, Mother Demon Spider is stunned by the tranquility and painlessness of her death. She is even more surprised and touched by Tanjiro’s eyes, devoid of malice, hatred and contempt. Instead, she sees pure kindness and compassion. As she fades, she recalls the painful memories and unkind looks her “family” gave her, and vaguely recalls her human past, remembering being loved and cherished by someone. As she slowly dissipates into black smoke, she wonders dimly where this person is now. In return for Tanjiro’s kindness, she weakly warns him that one of the twelve Kizuki is in the mountain, wishing him good luck before he dies.

Shape-shifting: Mother Spider Demon demonstrates advanced shape-shifting skills, able to alter her skin color, hair length and hue, facial structure, demonic markings, eye color and physical features to match those of Rui and maintain these modifications for long periods of time. However, due to her youth as a demon, she sometimes accidentally reverts to her true form, provoking Rui’s anger and leading him to punish her severely.
Spider psychology : Like the other members of her “family”, the Mother Spider Demon possesses spider characteristics and abilities.
- Rope manipulation: Like her fellows, Mother Demon Spider focuses on the use of spider threads or ropes, which she creates from her own flesh and cells. She can materialize these strings from her fingers and extend them over long distances, even covering an entire mountain.
- Puppets: Mother Demon Spider uses her strings in a special way, using them to manipulate corpses like puppets. She attaches her strings to her victims, transforming them into virtual puppets which she then uses to fight her opponents from a distance. She can even harness the full physical power of the controlled puppet using her strings, but this inflicts great physical pain on her puppets. This ability also enables her to control demon corpses, as she has managed to recover and preserve a demon’s body for use in combat, preventing it from dissipating into black smoke. The closer the strings connected to her, the more power she has over the puppets she manipulates.
Spider manipulation: Mother Demon Spider can create small white spiders with red dots, similar to her own physical traits and those of her “family”, to discreetly attach her strings to her victims without them noticing. These spiders also possess demon-like characteristics, as they burn when stabbed or sliced by a Nichirin blade.
