ATTENTION: The following contains revelations about season 4, episode 8 of “Attack of the Titans” entitled “Miscalculations,” now available for streaming on Crunchyroll, Funimation, Amazon Prime and Wakanim.

Since the start of its final season, “Attack of the Titans” has been moving away from its central core within the Exploration Battalion. However, this has changed in recent episodes, as the group managed to carry out a surprise attack against their enemies in Mahr, eliminating several Primordial Titans in the process. Unfortunately, it was during the Battalion’s retreat that their first major loss occurred: the assassination of Sasha Braus.

As one of the first characters to join Eren on his journey, Sasha’s death is heartbreaking for all those who supported her. With this tragic passing, let’s look back at her finest moments in “Attack of the Titans” to remind us why she was both beloved by fans and a vital pillar of the Exploration Battalion and the anime as a whole.

Surnamed “Miss Potato” since joining the 104th Training Brigade

After the events of the Shiganshina arc, viewers were immersed in Eren’s hatred and trauma as he prepared to join the 104th Training Corps. However, on the very first day, Sasha appeared munching on a stolen potato, standing in the guard position. This shocked the other recruits as well as us, as spectators, and we were taken aback by this unexpected comic moment. In the darkness, Sasha’s antics to satisfy his stomach would quickly become a constant source of joy and entertainment for all those around him.

Of course, when the instructor caught her eating, Sasha’s attempt to bribe him with just under half of her potato failed spectacularly. She was forced to run for five hours, regretting only her persistent hunger. It was an iconic introduction for her character, one that even the Mahr Eldians will discuss around the dinner table when Reiner talks about it in the show’s later episodes.

Sasha’s failure in the supply room

When they graduated, Sasha was ranked ninth in her class and was one of the new recruits assigned to the top of the Rose Wall during the Titan Colossal attack. In the midst of the Titan onslaught, Sasha and other recruits were forced to implement Armin’s plan to lure the Titans into the complex’s supply room in order to eliminate them quickly. This attempt was essential if they were to resupply and continue the fight for survival. Unfortunately, Sasha failed to slice deep enough into her Titan’s neck and was almost killed by it until Mikasa stepped in to finish the job.

While this may not be considered one of Sasha’s finest moments, it proved crucial in building his confidence in his teammates and overcoming his own fears and insecurities in this hostile world. This early failure set the stage for her future victories and made her choice to join the Exploration Battalion all the more inspiring.

Sasha’s origin as a hunter

During another battle, Sasha took time to reflect on her past and revealed a life very different from that of city-bred townsfolk. Born into a family of hunters, her father had taught her the rudiments of the hunt. Sasha was born a predator. Living in the village of Dauper, she and others like her took what they needed from the surrounding land, neither cultivating it nor altering the pristine nature that surrounded them.

However, when refugees from the other side of Rose’s wall arrived in their region, Sasha and her father were at odds over how to handle the situation. Eager to preserve their way of life and keep the village from changing, Sasha decided to join the army to ensure her survival. As a seasoned hunter, she knew she could become an essential member of the Exploration Battalion.

When Sasha faced the titan of the village

As already mentioned, Sasha’s first encounter with a Titan didn’t go so well. Later, when Titans appeared behind Rose’s wall, Sasha was forced to travel alone to her village, without three-dimensional equipment, to alert her fellow citizens. Arriving near a house, Sasha found herself in a desperate situation: she had to protect a young girl from a Titan who had already devoured her mother, while losing her horse.

Armed with just a few arrows and sending the little girl scurrying away, Sasha used this battle to overcome her fear and strengthen her resolve in the face of the monsters that surrounded her and her people. Although she didn’t kill the Titan, she did manage to blind it in a head-on charge, reuniting the little girl with her father and the villagers, leading them to safety. In this battle, Sasha fought alone and won.

Finally, Sasha’s most memorable moments were always linked to his favorite food: meat. Sometimes, Sasha would steal meat from officers to share with fellow recruits, strengthening their bonds and friendship. At other times, when meat was provided for them, Sasha could be as dangerous as a Titan to satisfy her hunger.

Whatever the case, these moments of levity were a source of joy for both her friends and the manga’s viewers. And because these moments brought such lightness, his final words, which testify to his constant desire for meat, are all the more heartbreaking.

“Dinner… Will it be ready soon or not? I’m craving meat.”
