Omitsu (お三み津 Omitsu?) held the position of director of the Kyogoku House located in Tokyo’s Yoshiwara entertainment district.
Appearance
Omitsu was a middle-aged woman, sporting marked wrinkles on her face and bright eyes. Her black hair was styled in a tsubushi shimada style embellished with a decorative comb.
In her only appearance, Omitsu was dressed in a patterned kimono, held together by a light-colored obi.
Personality
Although little is known of Omitsu’s personality, it seems that she was a respected figure within the brothel, as evidenced by the number of people who mourned her passing a few days after her death.
Omitsu initially had respect for Warabihime, as evidenced by his choice to ignore incidents linked to her. However, this respect eventually faded when she confronted her to protect the staff.
History
During her childhood, Omitsu heard the elders speak of the cruelty of a certain oiran, incredibly beautiful but with a twisted temperament, who treated others without mercy.
Later, Omitsu became the director of the Kyogoku house and worked alongside the oiran Warabihime.
Synopsis
Arc of the entertainment district
After hearing of numerous incidents involving girls mutilating, injuring and even committing suicide, Omitsu confronts Warabihime, holding her responsible. When she is accused of driving several girls to suicide, Warabihime coolly retorts that they wouldn’t have hurt themselves if they hadn’t bothered her. She tactfully adds that the success of the house rests largely on her alone. Furious at this attitude, Omitsu recounts a story an older woman had told her during her childhood, a story about many oirans throughout history sharing the same features. They were all extremely beautiful, but were known for their cruelty, which earned them the addition of the word “hime” to their name because of their mean-spirited and ruthless attitude. What’s more, they all bowed their heads when angry.
Seeing Warabihime adopt this behavior, Omitsu confronts the oiran with her inhuman nature, armed with a knife. Warabihime reveals her true demonic nature and grabs her with her obi before rising into the air above the neighborhood. Omitsu pleads for her life, but Warabihime “kindly” tells her not to be afraid, as she doesn’t feed on the elderly, before sadly dropping her below.
Powers
As an ordinary human, Omitsu possesses no additional powers or abilities.
Anecdotes
- Warabihime and the other residents of Kyogoku House nicknamed her “Okami” (女お將かみさん Okami-san?), meaning the owner of their own residence.
