MINERVA ORLANDO: A MAJOR FAIRY TAIL CHARACTER
Minerva Orlando is a major recurring character in the Fairy Tail manga. She plays the role of secondary antagonist in the Great Tournament of Magic arc. The daughter of Jienma Orlando, she is a powerful mage of the Saber Tooth guild.
Minerva is considered Saber Tooth’s most powerful mage. As the daughter of Jienma Orlando, the guild’s former master, she occupies an important position. However, after the Great Tournament of Magic, she decided to leave her guild and join Succubus Eye as a black mage. She later becomes a new recruit to the Tartaros Black Guild, where she takes the name Neo Minerva after being transformed into a demon.

APPARENCE
Minerva is a slender, medium-sized young woman with a distinctive oriental look. She sports long black hair that flows down to her lower back, mostly loose. Her hair is parted in the middle of her forehead, and she wears a fringe that frames her face and falls to her shoulders. She wears make-up in the manner of Japanese geishas, with dark, glossy lips, slanted green eyes with blue make-up, and short, furrowed eyebrows. She has pale skin and a considerably shapely figure.
Minerva’s attire is also oriental-inspired. She wears a strapless dress strongly reminiscent of the “Cheongsam”. This dress is fitted to the body with several dark laces in the back and on the right side, leaving part of the back and the right breast exposed. The dress is embellished with a saber-toothed tiger motif, in reference to her guild. Minerva completes her outfit with a pair of ornamental gloves that reach the shoulders, with a dark color on the lower part of the arm and hand, and a light color on the upper part, as well as black boots.

On the fifth day of the Grand Magical Tournament, Minerva alters her outfit considerably, giving it a more regal appearance. She replaces her dress with a slightly more low-cut, dark-colored version, with thin light-colored trim, laces to adjust the dress around her hips, thick fur covering her cleavage, and light ornamental patterns on the front of her chest. Minerva abandons her gloves and replaces them with several fur accessories. In addition to her dress, the fur is also present in the form of a necklace that encircles her neck, goes over her shoulders and ends with bifurcated edges.
After joining Succubus Eye, Minerva adopts a new outfit. This consists of a band that encircles her upper chest, leaving her lower chest partially exposed. Two straps connect this band to a collar around her neck. Over it, she wears a brown fur-lined coat. The bottom of her dress is split near her left leg, and she wears high-heeled boots with high socks.
When she joins Tartaros, Minerva undergoes a demon transformation. She now sports two curved horns on her head, a black patch covering her right eye, and a large mark extending from her lower left stomach to her right breast. Another smaller mark is present on her left leg, starting from the bottom of her right belly and ending at mid-thigh. She wears a long black cape and bandages that cover much of her chest. She also wears a light-colored armband and black gloves covering her hands. Her guild mark is located on her left waist. To complete her outfit, she wears knee pads and black high-heeled boots.
PERSONALITY
Minerva presents herself as a calm, confident woman. She expresses herself in an archaic, ancient form of Japanese. She displays great maturity and expects others to behave accordingly. However, the brutal training she underwent at the hands of her father, Jienma, has given her arrogant, even sadistic tendencies, which crumble when her arrogance is challenged in battle, leaving her in a state of panic. She harbors a grudge against Erza for her defeat in the Great Magic Tournament, until their confrontation after her transformation into a demon for Tartaros. However, during this fight, she feels remorse for her cruelty and even becomes suicidal, considering herself too weak to maintain her moral values, while seeking more power like Erza. After being reassured by Erza, Sting and Rog, she finally gains confidence in herself and her guildmates.
Before joining Tartaros, Minerva was ready to manipulate her teammates, seeing them as ladders to power. But even then, she wasn’t entirely devoid of compassion for them. She was deeply disgusted and horrified by Kyôka’s ruthless massacre of Succubus Eye members, simply because they were considered “weak”.
A year after returning to her guild, her arrogance has subsided and she apologizes for her past actions. She also became more involved in guild events, taking part in the annual cooking competition and winning.
Despite her reformation, her sadistic tendencies have not completely disappeared. In the “Twin Dragons of Saber Tooth” arc, she shows herself willing to torture Abyss Horn, a member of the Black Guild, in order to obtain information about Yukino’s whereabouts. She also declares that she would like to burn Toparge alive in revenge for his mistreatment of her little sister, Dia. However, when Toparge changes his behavior towards Dia and becomes kinder, Minerva decides to stop carrying out her threats.
As a result of her father’s abuse, Minerva feels contempt for members of abusive families in general, especially those who seek to turn their children or siblings into killing machines. She harbors great animosity towards Toparge for mistreating Dia, but forgives him after seeing him change and treat Dia kindly.

APTITUDES AND SKILLS
Territory: Minerva’s magic focuses on space manipulation, allowing her to control any spatial region she can see. She has used this ability to easily block Natsu Dragnir’s powerful Fire Dragon and Lightning techniques. She can also perform instantaneous teleportations of objects from nothing, as when she materialized Happy in her arms, even though he was far away from her. During the sea battle, she moved Lucy from the edge of the water orb to her direct line of attack. Minerva can also swap positions with a chosen target, teleporting simultaneously with it. Her magic can be used offensively, creating waves that can inflict heavy damage on a human, with effects similar to lead. She can send these waves directly at a target, or surround them to provoke several attacks at once. Minerva can also alter the properties of space, such as changing temperature, generating heat underwater or creating explosions.
Yagdo Ligora: Minerva uses this magic by reciting the incantation “Niel Wielg Mion Terse Elcantaeus: Yagdo Ligora” while waving her hands in a circular motion. This summons a large statue with intricate designs and patterns on its body, creating a powerful explosion. This magic is one of eighteen spells known as the Magic of the 18 War Gods of Yakuma.
Developed strength: Minerva possesses above-average physical strength, as evidenced by her ability to easily lift Lucy Heartfilia one-handed after defeating her in a sea battle.
Immense magical power: Minerva demonstrates a considerable amount of magical power. She was able to completely block Natsu Dragnir’s powerful Fire Dragon and Lightning techniques without showing the slightest sign of fatigue. She used her magic to brutalize Lucy for almost ten minutes without interruption, even after facing Erza Scarlett and Kagura Mikazuchi. Even when she unleashed her devastating spell, the Yagdo Ligora, she showed no sign of fatigue. When she uses her magical power, her violet aura can be felt throughout Crocus, as Chapati Lola and Yajima noticed.
Acrobatic skills: Minerva possesses great flexibility, enabling her to perform acrobatic movements. Thanks to her magic, she can appear from nowhere, twist in the air and hurl Erza Scarlett and Kagura Mikazuchi before landing gracefully on her own two feet.
Expert in hand-to-hand combat: Minerva is highly skilled in hand-to-hand combat. After teleporting Lucy, she kneed her in the ribs. She was also able to parry Erza Scarlett and Kagura Mikazuchi’s attacks by intercepting them with her hands, even though they were protected by her magic. Using her magic to swap places with Erza, she was able to deliver a powerful kick, sending him crashing into a remnant of the cube.
