Mikasa is one of the toughest characters in the “Attack of the Titans” series, but she also possesses a great vulnerability that has led her to make many of her worst mistakes!

Mikasa Ackerman's Worst Mistakes!

She’s one of the strongest, badass female characters, especially in Eren’s absence. However, she’s also one of the most vulnerable, as her attachment to Eren drives her to do anything to keep their little family together, even if it means making a mistake.

It’s always fascinating to see that some of the most hardened characters have such an easy weakness to exploit: an emotional rather than a physical bond. Eren is his ultimate weakness, and the cause of many of the mistakes on this list.

Witnessing against Eren

Mikasa Ackerman's Worst Mistakes!

Initially, Mikasa spoke out in Eren’s favor, hoping that the military authorities would be lenient towards him. Although this proved to be the case to some extent, she is nevertheless forced to testify against him, confirming that his reckless actions endanger the city and its inhabitants. What’s more, she has to witness Levi’s assault and humiliation of Eren in front of everyone. This infuriates Mikasa, but she is powerless. This is one of those moments when we understand why Eren is so bitter and angry. No one has ever trusted him, with valid reasons in some cases, but the idea remains the same.

Not seeing how much Jean loves her

Mikasa Ackerman's Worst Mistakes!

As far as Mikasa is concerned, her blindness to her feelings is mainly due to her exclusive attachment to Eren and, to a lesser extent, Armin. She can only concentrate on these two, pining after Eren like an affection-starved puppy, obeying his every wish. This leaves little room for her own life, relegating Jean to the background. However, this doesn’t stop him from trying to protect her both physically and mentally, as explained in more detail below. He always has the best intentions towards her, which is more than can be said for Eren.

Swearing to protect Eren

We don’t yet know the extent of this error, but what we do know is that Eren is the one pulling the strings in the Attack of the Titans universe, which comes as a great surprise to all readers of the manga. We can’t blame him for her feelings, as he’s protected her since childhood and even made her part of his family. Their strong bond is entirely understandable, but it’s becoming increasingly clear that she’ll have to make a crucial choice between saving Eren or saving the world. As a fan favorite, we hope she makes the right choice.

Being ambushed

Mikasa Ackerman's Worst Mistakes!

During the Major Turning arc, Mikasa and Levi embark on a quest to uncover the secrets of the government’s betrayal and take part in a coup. They decide to follow a funeral procession carrying the coffins of Historia and Eren, hoping to save them and find Rod Reiss to put an end to his deceptions.

However, events don’t go according to plan. Levi is spotted and a battle breaks out around him. It turns out that the funeral procession was a trap set by Rod, with the aim of eliminating Levi and his followers, who are seen as a threat. Everyone manages to escape, but this incident marks a turning point in Armin’s life, as he kills his first person that day.

His murderous rage

Mikasa Ackerman's Worst Mistakes!

When Mikasa and her group pursue Reiner and Bertolt, she is overcome by a murderous rage that prevents her from reasoning. Whatever the reasons for Reiner and Bertolt’s betrayal, she has no intention of capturing them alive. As far as she’s concerned, they must all die for daring to take Eren away from her. This flaw in her personality is often exploited in the series, where she has a narrow vision focused solely on Eren. She manages to escape thanks to Bertolt, but it’s already too late, as a horde of Titans has spotted them thanks to Erwin Smith.

Didn’t kill Bertolt and Reiner

Mikasa Ackerman's Worst Mistakes!

When Reiner and Bertolt reveal to Eren that they are responsible for the collapse of the Maria Wall, Mikasa seizes this fleeting opportunity to eliminate them both. Unfortunately, she fails, and the two transform into Titans to face Eren and the others. These two adversaries prove too powerful for those present, and succeed in their objective: to capture Eren and Ymir. Mikasa naturally feels deep regret, knowing that she could have prevented this. She breaks down in tears and needs Hannes to speak frankly to her to restore her courage.

Letting grief control her

Mikasa Ackerman's Worst Mistakes!

When Armin tells her of Eren’s death during the battle of the Trost district, Mikasa reacts irrationally, berating the other survivors and rushing to confront the Titans alone. She holds her own for a while, but eventually runs out of fuel, which she doesn’t notice because of her immense pain.

Her mind is so obsessed with revenge for Eren that it’s all she can think about, which could have led to her own death. Fortunately, Eren saves her by transforming into a Titan Assassin, thus preventing one of the best characters from being eliminated right from the start.

Menacer Livai

After defeating the battleship titan, Mikasa finds that Armin is seriously injured, and Eren makes desperate efforts to keep him alive. At first, Levi suggests using the titan’s serum to save Armin, but changes his mind after learning that Erwin’s situation is just as critical. At this point, Mikasa and Eren lose all control and Mikasa forces Levi onto the roof, placing her blade against his neck. However, she manages to regain her composure before making an irreparable mistake. Nevertheless, it’s a testament to her inability to control her emotions. As a result, she is taken into custody for her actions.

Don’t see Eren’s madness

Mikasa Ackerman's Worst Mistakes!

Despite all its qualities, Mikasa has one glaring flaw that can’t be ignored. In a way, this flaw has enabled Eren to become the horrible person he is today. It could already be glimpsed in certain moments of the previous arcs, but it was fully exposed during the battle of Marley. Eren was no longer the person she knew. He no longer seemed to care about life, whether Titans or human beings. Although he was currently using the Titans, he now seemed to simply want to see the world go down, putting everyone through the suffering he himself had endured. In part, this is Mikasa’s fault too, as she never took the lead and always bent over backwards to satisfy Eren’s desires.

Don’t listen to Jean

Mikasa Ackerman's Worst Mistakes!

It’s true that some of Jean’s suspicions of Eren were motivated by jealousy of Mikasa’s attention to him, given that he had a huge crush on her. However, he was on the right track all along, perceiving some of the dark intentions lurking in Eren’s heart, as well as his lack of empathy towards others despite his words. Each time, Mikasa refused to listen, remaining faithfully devoted to Eren, seeing in him only the boy who saved her rather than the man he was becoming. Even when the truth of her indifference to Sasha’s fate is revealed to her, she refuses to see what is happening before her eyes. It’s one of the frustrating aspects of an otherwise brilliant character.

And what do you think is Mikasa’s biggest mistake? Let us know in the comments!
