METALICANA - Fairy Tail

Metalicana, also known as the Steel Dragon (鉄竜 TETSURYŪ), was Gajil Redfox’s adoptive father.

APPARENCE

Metalicana, like the other Dragons, is a large quadrupedal creature, but unlike the others, her body is covered in steel scales. These scales give her the appearance of armor, covering her neck, sternum, shoulders, forearms, knees, shins, claws and thighs. In certain areas (belly, biceps and calves), the scales are crosshatched and resemble mesh.

Metalicana’s head is almost square-shaped, with a lower jaw that resembles a hinge. Its eyes are round, without pupils, with black sclera. Small black markings surround the eyes and extend to the back of the neck. Unlike other dragons, Metalicana’s wings do not fold and are also metallic, except for the feathers or patagium, which protrude like real feathers. It also has a pointed tail with metal plates along its spine.

PERSONALITY

According to Gajil, Metalicana is quite selfish. Despite this, he took Gajil under his wing, raised him as his own son and taught him his Steel Dragon Hunter magic. Gajil perceived a benevolent side to Metalicana, particularly when he was trying to find out where he was after his sudden disappearance. Metalicana is rather rude and direct, simply mocking the expression on his adopted son’s face when they first meet after more than fourteen years.

HISTORY

Over four hundred years ago, Metalicana had his soul extracted by Acnologia’s Dragon Hunter magic, leaving him half-dead.
Metalicana subsequently raised a human child, Gajil Redfox, and taught him to read, write and fight, while passing on her exclusive Steel Dragon Hunter magic. However, due to the severity of his injuries and the lack of Ethernano in the atmosphere at the time for him to heal, Metalicana sealed his soul into Gajil’s body using a secret art, enabling her to create antibodies to prevent her son from turning into a Dragon. This plan, created in collaboration with Ignir, Zeleph and constellation mage Anna Heartfilia, was also intended to enable Metalicana to travel back in time to a period when the concentration of Ethernano was high enough for him to heal, so that he could one day defeat Acnologia. In accordance with the plan, the other four Dragons who had chosen children also sealed their souls inside them and traveled through the Eclipse Gate until July 7, X777, the day the Dragon Hunters thought their parents had disappeared.

MAGIC AND CAPABILITIES

Steel Dragon Hunter’s Magic (鉄の滅竜魔法 Tetsu no Metsuryū Mahō): Although we never saw him use his magic, Metalicana taught Gajil the knowledge needed to practice this magic.
Dragon Soul (魂竜の術 Konryū no Jutsu) : Metalicana uses this ability to conceal her soul and magical power inside the body of her adopted son Gajil, thus preserving his life force and providing antibodies to the dragon hunter to prevent dragonization. This ability also enables him to travel through time.

Flight: As a Dragon, Metalicana can fly thanks to her wings.

Huge strength: Metalicana can destroy many face bombs by hitting them in flight and shattering them into pieces. However, his strength has been considerably reduced since he lost most of his powers when he offered his soul to Acnologia many years ago.
Great resistance: Thanks to his steel body, Metalicana has been able to withstand repeated attacks from all face bombs.
