Although Livai Ackerman is recognized as one of this generation’s most iconic anime characters due to his power, dominance and admirable presence, he’s not without his flaws. While his long list of accomplishments is impressive, it cannot mask the fact that he is a human being with his own weaknesses. A realistic hero needs imperfections if the audience is to identify with him and feel a certain frustration towards him. This is why Livai, despite his popularity with fans, can arouse mixed emotions because of his flaws.

10. He has a particular need for cleanliness
Livai Ackerman grew up underground, where cleanliness was considered a privilege rather than a right. As a talented soldier and cleaner, he devoted much of his time to both activities. However, his obsession with cleanliness can sometimes seem excessive, and he doesn’t miss an opportunity to comment on the cleanliness of the surrounding space, even at inappropriate moments, such as when protecting Historia and Eren with his team.
While cleanliness isn’t a flaw in itself, Livai’s obsessive behavior can be seen as distracting to others. Indeed, when a character is already in danger, the last thing he needs is to feel judged on the cleanliness of his surroundings.
9. He doesn’t put up with fools at any level
Livai Ackerman doesn’t tolerate thoughtlessness or lack of common sense, whether from his own commander or his subordinates. He is often annoyed by Eren’s outbursts, even if he understands them, and he particularly loses patience when he has to explain something he thinks is obvious.
Livai expects others to use their brains as he does. He doesn’t ask for help or clarification and isn’t inclined to offer these things to those who don’t meet his level of intelligence. In other words, if he doesn’t consider someone to have a decent level of intelligence, he won’t bother to give them his time or attention.
8. Can’t maintain meaningful relationships
Because of his profession and stoic attitude, Livai finds it hard to develop serious interpersonal relationships, despite his best efforts. He lost his entire team to the female Titan, had to make the difficult decision to let Erwin Smith die, and saw Eren turn into pure villainy before his eyes.
These experiences have made it even harder for Livai, who is naturally introverted, to make new friends or get close to people he likes. Although he cares deeply about the remaining scouts at the end of the war, none of them know him as well as the people he lost along the way, and he’s never really healed emotionally to learn how to deal with that pain.
7. He has trouble finding the right words
Livai’s famous line to Erwin, “Give up your dreams and die,” has become a popular meme in anime communities, but Livai was deadly serious and sought to comfort his former commander.
Having grown up in difficult conditions, Livai finds comfort only in hard truths, an ideology he passes on to others when he gives advice. Although he doesn’t seek to upset people, it’s his way of speaking and conveying his perspective.
6.Levi only responds to Erwin
Livai was known for being an authoritarian leader and for imposing his views on the other members of the Exploration Battalion, including his friend Hange. However, Erwin Smith was the exception to this rule. Livai admired Erwin and was ready to listen to his advice and follow his orders without hesitation. Unfortunately, Erwin was the only person to whom Livai had such confidence and admiration, because he was convinced that no one else was as competent to lead as he was. As a result, Livai often imposed his opinions on other team members and made the final decisions, making him a highly influential figure within the Exploration Battalion.
5. He’s almost always right
Livai is an extremely competent and reliable character, without many obvious weaknesses or serious criticisms. Unlike many competent characters in other stories, he doesn’t make many major mistakes or missteps, which always keeps him at the top of the authority and leadership ladder. Even at times when he’s faced with difficult choices, he’s often able to make the right decision for the common good, even if it goes against his personal feelings. For this reason, he is often seen as a figure of trust and stability in times of crisis, and other characters tend to turn to him for advice and help.
4. He doesn’t have time to rest
<img class="alignnone wp-image-91327 size-full" title="Livai Ackerman's 10 Faults" src="https://manga-lovers.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/levi-ackermann-attack-on-titan.webp" alt="Livai Ackerman's 10 Faults" width="943" height="472" Livai doesn't rest. He's only been seriously injured twice in the entire Attack of the Titans series, the first time when he saves Mikasa from the female Titan and gets his leg crushed, and the second when he falls victim to the explosion caused by Zeke. Despite this, Livai refuses to rest. After suffering his first injury, he continues to attend meetings, concentrating more on tactics than physical combat. After the explosion, he immediately swears with Hange to put an end to Eren. Despite his injury, which prevents him from feeding, Livai thinks only of fighting for humanity.
3. He firmly believes in personal responsibility.
Livai never offered comforting words to anyone. Instead, he reminds them that only they can judge whether their actions were right or wrong. For example, when Jean failed to kill a human to save his own life, Armin eventually did. Livai doesn’t question their choice, but asks them to live with the consequences of their actions.
Livai never seeks to justify its own actions, whether good or bad, and never passes them on to anyone else. Members of the Exploration Battalion have therefore learned not to seek empathy or reflection from him when they regret an action.
2. He hasn’t digested his grief
After losing his team to the female Titan, Livai kept silent about the situation, wracked with remorse and guilt over his own inability to protect his comrades. However, he managed to maintain his performance until they reached Marley.
Livai’s desperation to make sense of his comrades’ deaths eventually led to a momentary lapse in judgment that allowed Zeke to escape the camp and turn Livai’s comrades into Titans. It was one of the rare moments when Livai let her emotions get the better of her reason, allowing Zeke to cause much more damage.
1. No one else will ever be mankind’s strongest soldier.
Livai Ackerman’s biggest challenge is that the expectations he sets for himself through his own actions will never be fulfilled by anyone else. Being known as the strongest soldier in humanity throughout Attack on Titan means that others cannot meet Levi without a preconceived idea of him, and this idea is not always positive.
But it’s not just how others perceive Livai that is the problem. None of the soldiers on Paradis Island will ever be comparable to the legendary captain, no individual will ever have his combination of abilities, tactical knowledge, and weapon prowess. In truth, no one will ever be comparable to Livai, and he will always have to live with his own grand expectations.
