About Jigoro Kuwajima

Former Hashira Thunder, Jigoro Kuwajima was the instructor of Zenitsu and Kaigaku. He was also known as “Shihan”. Later, in atonement for Kaigaku’s betrayal, he committed seppuku.

History of Jigoro Kuwajima

Jigoro was Zenitsu and Kaigaku’s mentor, formerly the Pillar of Thunder. Kaigaku had managed to master all but the first thunder breath style, while Zenitsu had only managed to master the first style, due to his lack of experience.
He chose to commit suicide by seppuku when his former protégé betrayed the organization to obtain the powers of a demon. His death was slow and painful, as no one cut off his head while he bled to death. This tragedy motivated Zenitsu to become the next Thunder Pillar to avenge his master by killing Kaigaku.

Personality of Jigoro Kuwajima

Jigoro was devoted to his students and had strict discipline. Despite his status as a mentor and his experience as a former mainstay, he had a soft spot for the next generation of students and devoted all his time to them. His passion for his students made him deeply saddened when he discovered that his former student, Kaigaku, had betrayed the Demon Slayer Corps to join the Twelve Demonic Moons.
Zenitsu Agatsuma noticed that, despite his frequent whining and running away, Jigoro had never abandoned him. He had saved Zenitsu from a life of debt and taken him under his wing. With infinite patience, he was happy to see Zenitsu master the first style of his breathing technique. He firmly believed in repetitive training to perfect skills, comparing it to forging and purifying the steel of their swords. His fatherly love for his students is evident when Zenitsu expresses his love and gratitude for the efforts made to push him to improve, despite the rejection and judgment of others.
