The Hand Monster (手鬼, Te oni?) is a notorious demon who murdered thirteen apprentices of Sakonji Urokodaki, including Sabito and Makomo, as well as at least fifty other would-be demon hunters.
Appearance
The Hand Monster is a monstrous, veiny and imposing creature with olive-green skin, blood-red nails and piercing yellow eyes with ridged pupils. He once had a rather ordinary demonic appearance, with normal hair and clothes, but after he started feeding on humans, he began to transform. He developed numerous arms and his mouth became enormous, lined with jagged teeth. He has so many arms that he can no longer wear clothes, using them instead to cover himself. In addition, he has stopped using his legs and moves around with the help of a manual support. 🔥PRODUCTS OF THE MOMENT🔥
Personality
The Hand Monster was ruthless towards humans, killing them without hesitation and attacking even those who tried to escape. He had a deep hatred of Sakonji Urokodaki, cursing him for having defeated him and imprisoned him in the wisteria-infested Fujikasaneyama mountain, and vowing to kill all his apprentices. The demon also had a sadistic streak, taking pleasure in explaining Sabito and Makomo’s murder to Tanjiro Kamado. Despite this, the Hand Monster was deeply afraid of death, refusing to close his eyes even after Tanjiro had decapitated him.
In his human life, he used to ask his elder brother to hold his hand, which earned him a reputation as a coward. In his final moments, the Hand Monster reached out to Tanjiro to hold his hand, shedding tears of gratitude when his request was granted.
He seemed to have trouble understanding the passage of time, asking Tanjiro if we were still in the Meiji period (1868-1912), and becoming indignant when the answer was that we were in the Taisho period (1912-1926), claiming that he was still trapped in the wisteria prison.
History
During the Keiō era of the Edo period, the Hand Monster was transformed into a demon by Muzan Kibutsuji and immediately killed and devoured at least one person, in this case his older brother. He was soon hunted down and captured by a young Sakonji Urokodaki, then imprisoned on Fujikasane Mountain to serve as a demon obstacle during the Final Selection. He harbored a burning hatred of Urokodaki for depriving him of his freedom, driving him to traverse the ages by killing every Urokodaki disciple he could find. He was finally eliminated by Tanjiro Kamado during the Final Selection Arc.
Synopsis
Final Selection Arc
The Hand Monster targets several potential demon killers, killing one and pursuing another. Using his limb-based body structure, the Monster reaches out to grab his unfortunate victims, but Tanjiro slices through them using the Water Wheel: second form. Noticing Tanjiro’s presence, the Monster remarks that he is another “pretty fox”.
He asks Tanjiro what year of the Meiji era they are in, but Tanjiro replies that we are currently in the Taishō era, which angers him. Cursing Sakonji for trapping him in the wisteria-infested Fujikasane mountain, the Monster angrily explains to Tanjiro how he was captured by his master during the Keiō era of the Edo period. His first victim suspects him of lying because of the nature of the demons captured for the Final Selection, but the Hand Monster nevertheless claims to have devoured fifty children. He then mentions that Tanjiro was Sakonji’s fourteenth apprentice whom he met, having killed and devoured all the others. He describes in detail the two who made the biggest impression on him: a pink-haired boy with a scar near his mouth, and a girl wearing flowery clothes and moving quickly and lightly. Explaining the significance of the fox mask given to Tanjiro by Sakonji, the Monster mocks the collective fate of his victims, particularly Makomo’s initial reaction.
This enrages Tanjiro, and he violently attacks the Monster, slicing off the various limbs with which the evil creature attacks him. However, one of the Monster’s limbs manages to get through Tanjiro’s defense, delivering a powerful punch that knocks him out. The Hand Monster then extends several of its arms towards the young man, but he avoids them at the last moment. After cutting off these appendages, the cunning Monster tries to take Tanjiro by surprise with an attack from the ground. Tanjiro also dodges this attack, but the determined mutant extends a massive arm towards the young man, who falls. However, Tanjiro counters with a solid headbutt. Realizing that he has no more hands to use, the desperate Monster decides to reinforce his defenses around his neck and uses Water Breathing: First Form – Water Surface Strike, but Tanjiro manages to strike back soon after.
When the blow is delivered, the Hand Demon notices that the sound it makes is identical to Sakonji’s, and calls out the latter’s name with frightening anger. The attack completely severed the multi-handed foe’s head, and the Demon panicked in the face of imminent death. Instead of looking at Tanjiro with contempt, he is shocked to see the young man’s sorrow-filled eyes. The Demon reaches out an arm towards his opponent, which Tanjiro respectfully grasps, praying never to turn into a demon again in his next reincarnation. As he recalls his past, the Hand Demon sheds tears before collapsing into nothingness.
Abilities and powers
The Hand Demon was by far the most powerful of his race on Mount Fujikasane, having devoured a total of 50 humans, well above the average of 1 to 2 humans like other demons in the area. Of his victims, 13 were disciples of Urokodaki, a testament to his fighting prowess.
- Flesh manipulation: Like all demons, this demon possesses the ability to manipulate its own flesh. In his case, the Hand Demon can extend his multiple arms to several meters in length. He can attack with a barrage of arms, or group his flesh together to form a larger arm. He uses this ability strategically, even burying his arms underground to attack undetected.
- Enhanced resilience: The Hand Demon was known for the strength of his neck muscles, which enabled him to shatter blades aimed at him. As decapitation was the preferred method of defeating demons, this characteristic enabled him to minimize his main weakness. However, he was not immune to stabbing attacks, as a strong enough slash could decapitate him.
- Pain Tolerance: The Hand Demon had enormous pain tolerance, as evidenced by the fact that he didn’t flinch despite losing many limbs in battle. He was even capable of clawing his body in frustration and anger to the point of bleeding, but he felt only rage, not pain.
