Welcome to the ultimate guide for young saiyans!
If you’re a fan of Dragon Ball Z, and more specifically of the cyborg saga, then this article is specially designed for you! If you’re fond of the character Cell and want to know more about his story, then stay tuned!
Cell is Dr Gero’s supreme creation, fashioned from the DNA of several extremely powerful fighters such as Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, Freezer and King Cold. He is the main antagonist of the cyborg saga and aspires to absorb C17 and C18 in order to become the perfect fighter.
It’s essential to stress that Cell comes from the future, and his creation was finalized by Dr. Gero’s supercomputer. He arrives in the present in an imperfect form thanks to a time machine.
In this ultimate guide, we invite you to discover:
- Cell’s personality
- His complete biography
- His fighting techniques
So, without further ado, let’s get this adventure started! 👊 🔥PRODUCTS OF THE MOMENT🔥
CELL’S APPEARANCE
According to her current transformation, Cell’s appearance is distinct.
In his original form, Cell is a larva that resembles a large cicada with four legs. He also has long, V-shaped horns on his head. 🦗
As it develops, it acquires its imperfect form. It becomes humanoid and is able to move in an upright position. It bears a strong resemblance to an insect, notably in its mouth, skin and stinger. It also has beetle-like wings. It has a very long tail and can absorb vital energy from other people with its stinger.
After absorbing C17, it reaches its so-called Half-Perfect form. His wings disappear and he becomes much more muscular in appearance. His horns now point upwards, forming a kind of crown. His face is distinctive, with a large mouth and no nose. Despite this, a human face is beginning to emerge, a sign that Cell is moving away from his insectoid appearance. The feet have lost their toes and now resemble shoes. As for his tail, it remains unchanged and will be used to absorb C18. 🤔
Later, Cell reaches his final stage: his perfect form. His face becomes more conventional again, with a nose and mouth. His tail is completely retracted behind his two large wings. His size diminishes slightly from his second form. His feet remain shoe-shaped, and his horns remain pointed. Several purple streaks appear on each side of his face, like Freezer in his first three forms. 📖
Cell is also able to adopt an extremely muscular form similar to that of Super Trunks, but he prefers to avoid this transformation so as not to compromise his speed.
Finally, towards the end of the saga, Cell reaches a Super Perfect stage. His appearance remains identical to his perfect form, but he is now surrounded by an electrified aura similar to Super Saiyan 2. He is also able to move instantly in the manner of Son Goku.
CELL’S PERSONALITY
Cell is distinguished by his distinctive antagonism, reflecting a unique personality that is influenced by traits inherited from the fighters whose DNA he possesses. In particular, he is strongly marked by the characteristics of Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo and Freezer. Thanks to this, Cell knows his opponents’ weaknesses and knows how to exploit them in battle. It’s worth noting that his personality undergoes a radical transformation depending on his stage of transformation. ☝
At first, Cell is determined to achieve his goals. He shows himself to be cautious, cunning, devious, calculating and strategic. Aware that he’s not yet strong enough to triumph over his opponents, he doesn’t hesitate to flee by concealing his aura.
In his second form, a much more brutal side emerges in Cell. He turns away from strategy and relies on his brutal strength to defeat his opponents. When things go wrong, he becomes impulsive and reckless, losing his ability to think rationally. However, he nonetheless retains a degree of strategy, as when he exploits Vegeta’s arrogance to manipulate him into absorbing C18. He tells Vegeta that, in his ultimate form, the Prince of the Saiyans would have no chance of defeating him. Furious, Vegeta lets Cell absorb C18. 😱
In his perfect form, Cell benefits from all the qualities of the fighters whose DNA he shares. For example, Piccolo’s ingenuity, Vegeta’s pride, Goku’s relaxed, carefree attitude, Freezer’s arrogance and cruelty (which, in this case, aren’t really qualities), as well as the Saiyans’ lust for battle.
In this form, Cell is calm and courteous. He uses the arrogance he exploited in Vegeta to elicit the same reaction in Gohan, in order to provoke the revelation of his hidden powers, thus leading him to his own downfall.
Cell is also a vain being. He organizes a tournament called the Cell Games, with the sole aim of proving that he is the best in the world. This characteristic is reinforced during his fight with Gohan. He declares his intention to annihilate all those who consider him imperfect. However, when the situation gets out of hand, Cell becomes desperate and makes serious strategic errors. 🤔
Cell’s story is a relentless quest to achieve what he considers perfection. In his imperfect form, he tirelessly pursues this goal. Above all, he wants to discover the meaning of the perfection destined for him. To achieve this, he is very cautious and cunning, as he is aware of his weakness compared to cyborgs 17 and 18, so he must surprise them using the element of surprise. Before he can absorb their energy, he must first absorb that of many humans to increase his power. 💪
Nevertheless, even in his imperfect form, Cell displays a certain arrogance and narcissism at times. He reveals his plan to Piccolo, convinced he’s already won.
Once he has reached his second form, Cell is no longer concerned with absorbing the energy of other creatures. He is obsessed with the search for C18 and feels that his quest for perfection is coming to an end. His increased power feeds his arrogance and narcissism. However, he is quickly brought back to reality by Vegeta. 👍
When he finds himself in an extremely difficult situation, Cell completely loses his cool and starts destroying islands in a bid to bring C18 out of hiding. He doesn’t even consider for a second that he could kill her by acting in this way.
Having reached his perfect form, Cell has accomplished what he was created to do. He even admits that killing Son Goku doesn’t interest him that much. He then decides to organize a tournament to show everyone who’s the strongest. 👊
It’s amusing to recognize several qualities in him, such as his politeness. However, he is also sadistic like Freezer and enjoys seeing people terrorized. According to author Akira Toriyama, the idea of organizing the Cell Games came from Piccolo’s DNA. Indeed, the demon Piccolo acts in the same way to terrorize the world’s population by appearing on television. Cell possesses dark aspects inherited from the demon Piccolo, Vegeta and Freezer. 😈
When he returns to his perfect form, his aura overflows with power and Cell’s ego becomes even more inordinate. He loses his senses at times and provokes Gohan with pleasure. He doesn’t hesitate to launch a devastating attack that could destroy the entire solar system for the sole purpose of defeating Gohan.
After a near-death experience, Cell attains ultra perfect form and believes himself to be immortal. He is convinced that he cannot be defeated because he embodies perfection. He thus recalls Freezer during this phase.
Are you ready to rediscover Cell’s complete story? Then… let’s get on with it!
BIOGRAPHY OF CELL.
ORIGINS: THE CREATION OF THE CELL.
PROJECT
In reality, Cell as we know it comes from another timeline. He comes from the future and uses a time machine. In his reality, C17 and C18 no longer exist. He is therefore forced to go back in time to find them and reach his perfect form. Cell is forced to return to the egg state, then to the larva. He goes back in time 4 years before the events of the cyborg saga, as he needs time to evolve and reach his first imperfect form. 👍
Once transformed into this form, his skin molts and he emerges from the ground. He then begins his quest for ascension and seeks to gain in power. He decides to absorb the lives of many humans and destroy several cities.
Cell’s existence is revealed when Bulma notices the presence of a second time machine. Trunks and Gohan set off to investigate and discover Cell’s ship, as well as the remains of his egg and skin.
Cell was created by Dr Gero’s computer to create the perfect fighter. His mission? Absorb the androids C17 and C18 in order to become the ultimate warrior, capable of killing Goku and avenging the Red Ribbon Army. 🤜
CELL’S SAGA.
After wiping out the population of Ginger Town, Cell crosses paths with Piccolo. The Namekian calls Cell a monster. His ki is also very strange. The richest man in town is in Cell’s hands and begs Piccolo for help. The insect-like humanoid plants his stinger and absorbs all his energy. Piccolo is shocked, especially as Cell threatens him by name. The Namekian wonders how he knows his name. Cell claims to be his brother and Piccolo demands an explanation of his true identity. The fight begins and the Namekian intends to defeat his target. 💀
Piccolo says he was disappointed by his opponent’s power, expecting better. Cell retorts that he’s not that bad a fighter, but that he’ll never be able to defeat him once he reaches his perfect form.
Piccolo understands why Cell absorbs people’s energy; he needs to strengthen himself. He wants to understand why Cell came here with the help of a machine. Then he starts charging a Kamehameha, which surprises Piccolo. Cell manages to dodge it, but surprises Piccolo by grabbing him by surprise. He plants his stinger in Piccolo’s arm and absorbs his vital energy. The Namekian frees himself and feigns difficulty. Cell then reveals his plan, confident of victory. 📝
After listening to his whole story about his creation and his plan to hunt down and absorb cyborgs, Piccolo makes his injured arm grow back. The Namekian explains that he has no chance of winning the fight. Cell, aware of the reality of things, congratulates Piccolo on his cunning and tactics. He also understands that the being before him is the result of the fusion of Piccolo and Kami. However, there’s bad news in all this: Cell deduces that the Dragon Balls have reverted to ordinary stones and that no one can be resurrected. ✨
Krillin and Trunks from the future arrive on the scene. Cell is surprised by Trunks’ power and deduces that this is an alternative version to his timeline. Krillin asks why Cell’s ki resembles Goku’s. The explanation is simple: Cell was created with the DNA of Goku, Vegeta, Freezer, Piccolo and King Cold.
Cell isn’t stupid, and he knows that there’s nothing he can do at the moment. So he decides to retreat and try to absorb more energy. Piccolo laughs, saying he won’t let him escape. Cell then puts together the perfect escape plan, announcing that he will absorb C17 and C18. He concludes his speech by unleashing a Bite of the Sun. This technique blinds Piccolo, Krillin and Trunks, allowing Cell to escape discreetly by concealing his aura. 👍
Crossing a nearby forest, he laughs at his escape and the stupidity of his opponents. He realizes that, for the time being, there’s no point in confronting the Z fighters. So he sets off in search of energy by absorbing numerous prey. He heads for a nearby town to feed. He fleetingly crosses paths with Vegeta and sees the difference with his own reality. The Prince of Saiyans is not dead to the cyborgs and seems much stronger in this dimension. So the challenge looks set to be daunting, and Cell aspires to become perfect as quickly as possible.
He continues like this for some time. He violently attacks a location, then disappears a few minutes later. Piccolo and Tenshinhan continue to hunt him down to prevent him from continuing his ruthless work. 😨
Trunks from the future and Krillin come up with the idea of eliminating Cell in the current timeline while he’s safe. In the anime, he battles Krillin and almost succeeds in absorbing him! Thanks to the intervention of Piccolo and Tenshinhan, Cell will be forced to flee by camouflaging himself once more.
After absorbing the vital energy of tens of thousands of people, Cell decides to chase the cyborgs. He finds Piccolo and C17 in intense combat. The battle ends in a draw, as everyone decides to see Cell as the main threat. Dr. Gero, Cell’s creator, also notices the presence of C16, an older, fully robotic model. He doesn’t care much about it, thinking it’s not much of a threat. 😅
Cell begins to unleash his power, and it’s obvious that he’s now stronger than anyone else. He rushes towards C17 to grab him, but Piccolo stands in his way to protect him. Cell explains to the cyborgs why he was created and his plan to absorb them. He tries to convince them through dialogue, claiming that together they will form a perfect being, Dr Gero’s best creation. However, C17 replies that he is already the most powerful. Cell makes him understand that, whether he likes it or not, he will be absorbed.
C16 intervenes and orders C17 to retreat. He explains that if Cell manages to achieve perfection, he will pose a threat to the entire universe. C17 lets his ego get the better of him and retorts that there’s nothing to fear: he’s the best. Cell attacks and easily defeats Piccolo, who is already weakened. He gets rid of him by knocking him out and heads for C17. 😱
The fight is clearly in Cell’s favor, as he prepares to absorb C17. C16 decides to intervene, claiming that his power is equivalent to Cell’s. Cell’s sting is ineffective against C16, as he is entirely robotic and has no traditional life force. C16 takes the opportunity to grab Cell’s tail and pull it off. However, this proves totally useless, as Cell has the ability to regenerate, just like Piccolo. As long as his brain is intact, he can restore the other parts of his body. ✨
C16 then realizes that he must completely destroy his opponent and reduce him to dust. Cell hides underground to escape radar, then reappears later to surprise C17 and absorb him. His power becomes considerable, and he is superior to all the others. He continues to stalk C16 and C18 to prevent their escape.
He inflicts heavy damage on C16 and begins to approach C18. The latter warns him that if she feels threatened, she will initiate the self-destruction process. Cell tries to use trickery by imitating C17’s voice, but she isn’t fooled and picks out inconsistencies in Cell’s words. 🤔
The plan fails, and Dr. Gero’s terrible creation decides to attack C18 anyway. He relies on his speed to prevent him from destroying himself. However, Tenshinhan intervenes to cover C18’s escape. The Earth fighter uses several Kikoho of rare violence to surprise Cell. This act of bravery almost costs him his life, and much of the landscape is destroyed. Cell didn’t suffer enough damage to be in danger, but he lost track of C18 because of this diversion.
Cell is furious with Tenshinhan and decides to eliminate him in revenge. But Goku intervenes, teleporting to his friend’s side. Cell then meets Goku for the first time. The Saiyan uses his teleportation technique to run away with his two friends. ✨
From now on, our heroes’ priority is to find C18 in order to prevent Cell from reaching his final form.
Cell continues his relentless hunt for C18. He scours the archipelago and threatens to destroy the islands one by one if C18 doesn’t show up. Receiving no response, he carries out his threat. However, he is interrupted by Vegeta, who emerges from the chamber of mind and time. The prince of the Saiyans is incredibly powerful and calls himself Super Vegeta.
The fight is one-sided, and Cell can do nothing. He becomes insane with rage at his powerlessness and declares that if he reached his ultimate form, he would be able to triumph very easily. Vegeta laughs and lets his arrogance get the better of him. He agrees to let Cell find C18 to continue the fight. Trunks strongly opposes this plan, but his father prevents him from defending C18. 👊
Cell manages to take advantage of this confusion and once again uses the sun bite technique to dazzle everyone. He reappears behind C18 and absorbs him. He thus achieves his perfect form.
Krillin is furious, and with Trunks, he rushes towards Cell to venge C18. Cell is busy admiring his new body and completely ignores his opponents. He gives Krillin a little kick, who is propelled across the island and ends up almost dead. Vegeta remains true to himself and seems unimpressed by this new form. He wants to get back into the fight. Cell is having fun and not fighting seriously. The Prince of the Saiyans begins to realize the error of his ways, as his opponent seems totally untouchable. Cell retaliates with a kick and sends Vegeta crashing against the cliff. He laughs at him, thanking him for allowing him to absorb C18. 😟
Vegeta provokes Cell to stop him dodging his next attack, the Final Flash. He charges his attack for several seconds. The attack is incredibly powerful, but does no serious damage to Cell. What’s more, thanks to Piccolo’s cells, the slight damage he suffers is regenerated. Cell counterattacks and knocks out Vegeta. 👊
Now it’s Trunks’ turn to take over. He transforms into Super Trunks and takes on a very muscular appearance. Indeed, he seems to be stronger than Cell in terms of power. However, he is very slow, and his strength is useless, as he is unable to touch Cell.
Cell is superior and explains to Trunks that he’s planning a tournament in ten days’ time. Everyone can take part and face Cell one-on-one. Then he decides to leave the area, leaving Trunks alone in shock.
Our heroes start planning their strategy to be ready to confront and defeat Cell at the tournament. One of their main assets is the Mind and Time Chamber, where time flows more slowly. For example, a 24-hour day on Earth is equivalent to a year in this dimension. Goku and Gohan train here to gain power. 💪
Everyone trains, while Cell prepares the arena for the upcoming tournament. The inhabitants of Earth are informed of the event telepathically and begin to panic. They send their champion, Hercules Satan, to face Cell.
By the way, we urge you to check out our ultimate guide to Mr. Satan! 😉
The days pass, and the tournament approaches. Cell remains impassive, waiting for the ultimate hour.
Goku and Gohan emerge from the Hall of Mind and Time, seemingly having acquired a new inner power. They are able to remain in Super Saiyan without being angry.
On the day of the tournament, the whole team appears before Cell, accompanied by a TV crew and Mr. Satan.
Earth’s number one intends to start first. He demonstrates his strength by breaking bricks, then climbs into the ring and attacks Cell relentlessly. Obviously, Cell suffers no damage. After several minutes, Cell decides to put an end to the joke and easily dismisses Satan with a wave of his hand. The inhabitants of Earth are shocked, and their champion explains that he has slipped badly. They’ll let Goku and his friends fight for now. 😅
And indeed, Son Goku opens the ball by facing Cell in one-on-one. The two warriors show their fighting spirit, exchanging devastating techniques in turn. After a long exchange of blows, Goku decides to let Gohan face Cell. He even offers his opponent a senzu to keep the fight fair.
He explains to Cell that Gohan possesses a hidden power that is only triggered when he is angry.
Cell is really curious and wants to see this power for himself. He confronts Son Gohan and overpowers him. He provokes him and tries to make him angry. Goku’s friends don’t understand this choice and fear that Gohan will lose his life. His father remains confident and says nothing. 🤫
Cell decides to change strategy to piss off his opponent. He gives life to several Cell Juniors, all of whom are extremely powerful. He sends them to attack Goku and his friends. Gohan watches as everyone around him is slaughtered by the violent blows of these little blue creatures. He begins to get angry, and the decisive moment comes moments later. C16, who lost his body in a fight, is left with only his head. He asks Mr. Satan to send him in front of Cell and Gohan. 👍
The Earthman agrees and C16 makes his speech in front of Gohan before being mercilessly crashed by Cell with a kick. This event triggers Goku’s rage, and Gohan reaches the Super Saiyan 2 stage. He easily eliminates all the Cell Juniors and decides to annihilate Cell.
The fight rages on, and Cell is dominated. He finally cracks C18 and reverts to his second form. Mad with rage, he decides to activate the self-destruct system that will destroy the planet. Gohan is terrified not to have killed him sooner. Goku decides to teleport Cell to Master Kaio‘s planet to prevent the destruction of Earth. 💥
It’s done, and Cell explodes, killing Goku and Kaio. However, his brain miraculously survives the explosion, and he manages to regenerate into his third form. Thanks to the Saiyans’ DNA, he becomes even more powerful after his near-death experience. And that’s not all, he now masters instant teleportation and can move wherever he wants. ✨
He returns to the scene of the fight and challenges Gohan after seriously damaging his arm. Then the two enemies each send each other a Kamehameha at full power. Cell concentrates all his strength, as does Gohan, who also benefits from Son Goku’s power. The impact is extremely violent, and Cell is literally reduced to dust. Gohan and his friends leave, leaving Mr. Satan alone at the scene of the battle. The Earthlings therefore believe that it was he who defeated Cell. 😂
Cell left his mark on the Dragon Ball universe thanks to his original storyline, interesting personality, successful design and epic battle with Gohan. The latter introduced an entirely new form: the Super Saiyan 2.
