Are you a fan of the Dragon Ball Z universe? Welcome to our blog post! You’ve come to the right place if you want to explore the famous cyborg C-16!

C-16 is one of Dr Gero’s (C-20) first creations. It’s a fully mechanized combat model, which means that unlike C-17 and C-18, it has no humanity at all. He plays a major role in the Cell saga.

In this article, we’ll look at:

  • His appearance and personality
  • His complete biography
  • His fighting techniques

Ready for this ultimate guide dedicated to C-16? Then it’s high time to get started! 🤜

WHAT DOES C-16 LOOK LIKE? WHY WAS IT CREATED?

C16 - Dragon Ball Z
Of all the cyborgs in the Dragon Ball Z universe, C-16 is probably one of the most famous, alongside C-17 and C-18.

This model is very tall, with blue eyes and orange hair. He also wears two gold earrings. His armor is mostly green and imposing. The Red Ribbon Army logo appears on the left side of his armor. Dr. Gero created these cyborgs to take revenge on Goku. In the Dragon Ball saga, Son Goku annihilates this entire army. 💥

C-16’s physique is based on the son of Doctor Gero, who died in battle shortly before the events of Dragon Ball.

It’s essential to understand why Dr. Gero created C-16: to kill Son Goku.

C-16’S PERSONALITY

C16 - Dragon Ball Z
Despite his impressive, even intimidating appearance, C-16 doesn’t exude an ounce of malevolence. Instead, he’s calm, friendly and has a deep appreciation of nature and the world in general (especially small birds, for those who understand the reference). He doesn’t tolerate evil and considers Cell to be evil, because all he wants to do is destroy. C-16 is reliable and protective of his friends. This is clearly seen when he gives his all to save C-17 and C-18 from Cell. 👏

He confronts Cell in his imperfect form, to no avail. Unfortunately, C-17’s arrogance leads to his absorption. Once in his second form, Cell proves superior to C-16.

C-16 is even willing to sacrifice himself for a good cause. This is particularly the case during the fight between Gohan and Cell. 👍

On the other hand, he remains very distant towards Goku. Indeed, the fact that he was created to kill him prevents him from establishing a friendly relationship with him… Let’s find out more about his story!

C-16’S BIOGRAPHY

ORIGINS

C-16 is considered an incomplete cyborg. He was designed by Dr. Gero, of course. The idea was to create an entirely synthetic, mechanical fighter. 🦾
Physically, he resembles Dr. Gero’s son. However, when he was created, his designer programmed him to possess a gentle, calm nature. C-20 didn’t want C-16 to suffer the same tragic fate as his son. 💀

According to him, C-16’s programming was not yet complete when C-17 released him. C-16 is not obedient enough to follow orders to the letter.

C-16 is silent and only speaks when necessary. He even claims that C-17 and C-18 are not fundamentally bad.

So this model had a few flaws when it was designed. It wasn’t meant to be activated and would have required a few more hours of programming. Interestingly, in Trunks’ futuristic storyline, C-16 is not present. 🤔

C-16 IN THE CYBORG SAGA

Back to the classic timeline! It’s C-18’s curiosity that leads to the activation of the mechanical cyborg. Dr. Gero formally forbids him to do so, and this altercation prompts C-17 to kill him. 💀
Trunks from the future decides to attack to eliminate the threat by launching a powerful attack. This has no effect and C-16 is well and truly activated. Once awake, C-17 and C-18 ask him questions, but get no answers in return. 🤫

C-16 simply states that he was created to kill Goku. C-17 doesn’t like following his creator’s orders, but nevertheless recognizes the need to pursue an objective. The trio therefore decide to go in search of Goku in order to eliminate him. 😨

On the way, they pick up a car. Later, they are intercepted by Vegeta, who demands a fight. C-16 explains that he does not wish to fight. So C-18 volunteers to fight him.

The fight takes place, and Vegeta suffers a humiliating defeat. Trunks of the Future, Krillin, Piccolo and Ten Shin Han arrive in support of Vegeta. C-17 asks if C-16 intends to fight this time, but apparently the answer is no. Vegeta refuses any help and gets up to continue the fight. C-18 breaks his arm. This prompts his son to intervene, refusing to witness his father’s death. C-17 steps in and easily defeats him, as do Ten Shin Han and Piccolo. 👊

Meanwhile, C-16 observes the birds and feels sadness as he sees them fly away due to the violence of the fight.

Thus ends the fight, and the cyborgs return to their original goal of finding Goku.

C-16 IN THE CELL SAGA

Although he occupies a minor role in the previous saga, C-16 will play a decisive role against Cell. 👍
This new saga begins when Piccolo discovers a city completely devastated in a mysterious way. After discovering a time machine and the remains of a lizard mutation, the FighterZ team investigates.
Piccolo eventually crosses Cell’s path and discovers the truth. 📖

Afterwards, Cell runs off to absorb many human lives. He needs to increase his power in order to defeat C17 and C18. His goal is to assimilate them in order to reach his perfect form. ✨

C16 - Dragon Ball Z
And it’s at this precise moment that C16 begins to assume importance in the plot. He wants to protect his two cyborg friends from Cell. 👍

On the tropical islands, Piccolo confronts C17 and tries to make him understand the threat posed by Cell. The latter ignores him, as he has great confidence in his fighting abilities. He considers himself the best.

Cell intervenes and explains his intentions. As he prepares to fight C17, C16 intervenes and asks him to step back. He warns that Cell must be prevented from reaching his perfect form at all costs, as this could lead to the destruction of the entire world. 💥

C17 is disappointed by this intervention and ignores his recommendations.

The fight seems to be turning in Cell’s favor, and C16 is already asking C18 to run away from Cell.

During the fight, Cell grabs C17 in an attempt to assimilate him, but C16 intervenes and pushes him away. He then engages in intense combat with the reptilian fighter. Cell regenerates and plants his stinger in C16’s neck. However, there’s no life force to absorb, as the model is entirely mechanical. The cyborg takes the opportunity to grab Cell’s tail and rip it off, thinking this will be enough to prevent Cell from surprising C17 and C18. 🦎

C16 - Dragon Ball Z
Unfortunately, it’s no use, as the imperfect fighter has the power to regenerate his cells as long as his brain remains untouched. ✨

Following this, C16 realizes that it is necessary to destroy Cell completely to prevent him from reaching his perfect form. The battle continues, and C16 uses his most fearsome technique, the Hell’s Flash. This explosion, created from his arms, destroys a large part of the island. Cell is missing for a few minutes. 💥

The cyborgs think Cell is almost defeated and relax their vigilance. But this is a fatal error, as Cell reappears and surprises C17. Assimilation takes place, and Cell reaches his semi-perfect form. He begins to shed his “insect” appearance to become more human.

At this point, Cell becomes the most powerful being around, now surpassing C16. 🤛

Our mechanical cyborg takes a lot of damage and hides alongside C18 thanks to Ten Shin Han’s diversion, then the arrival of Trunks and Vegeta.

Cell nevertheless manages to assimilate C18, thanks to Vegeta. The Prince of the Saiyans, who is more powerful than the semi-perfect form, becomes very arrogant. When Cell claims that he would beat him easily if he reached his ultimate form, Vegeta refuses to believe him and lets Cell locate C18. 😫

Once in his ultimate form, Cell outstrips all the surrounding heroes. He decides to organize a special martial arts tournament, called the Cell Games. He’ll take on any champion who dares to face him. If he wins, he’ll destroy everything. 💥

After several days of preparation, C16 is one of the first to arrive on the scene. He intends to defend the Earth as well as the animals.

The tournament begins, and the battles rage. Son Goku passes the torch to his son Gohan. He’s convinced that if the half-Saiyan gets angry, he’ll easily surpass Cell. 👍

Gohan strings together attacks, but fails to unleash his full potential. He watches helplessly as his friends suffer.

It’s at this point that C16 plays a crucial role in Cell’s saga. Despite a serious injury, his head is the only part of his body still intact. He asks Mr Satan to throw him near Gohan so that he can talk to him.

Once this request has been carried out, he speaks softly to Goku’s son, asking him to protect the little birds and innocent creatures. Cell shows himself to be ruthless and cruel, and crushes C16’s head with a kick, calling him a useless cyborg. This act deeply shocks Gohan, who then lets his rage explode. With the Super Saiyan 2 stage now achieved, victory is only a matter of time… 👊

HOW POWERFUL IS C16?

C17 claims to be the most powerful cyborg. This can be seen when C17 analyzes C16’s data, confirming that C16 is not as strong as he is. However, it’s very likely that this difference in levels is due to the fact that C16 has been inactive for a very long time. 🤔

In reality, it seems that C16 is indeed the most powerful cyborg, if we exclude Cell. His creator, Dr. Gero, claims that C16 could even endanger the entire planet.

In terms of power, C16 is on a par with Cell’s imperfect form, once he has absorbed the energy of numerous humans. After being repaired and enhanced by Bulma, C16 was able to stand up to Cell in his perfect form for a short time. 🤼‍♀️

C16’S 7 BEST FIGHTING TECHNIQUES

C16 is a unique, fully synthetic cyborg. This gives him special fighting abilities. Let’s discover the most emblematic ones here! 😀

Son Goku elimination program: C16 was created with the aim of killing Goku. His program therefore contains information about the latter, such as his skill, fighting style and main techniques. C16 maintains a cold attitude towards Goku and refrains from confronting him, as Cell represents a far greater threat.

Bear Hug: C16 grabs his opponent in close combat and tortures him. He uses this technique against perfect Cell.

Power Sensor: C16 has an excellent power sensor that doesn’t break if the energy is too high. In the FighterZ game, it’s even able to recognize divine ki and assess Goku Blue’s power.

Eye Beam: C16 shoots a laser beam from his eyes. He also uses this technique against Cell.

Machine Impact: A technique that involves blocking the enemy’s shoulder.

Hell’s Flash: One of the most devastating techniques without a doubt. C16 grabs his opponent, throws him to the ground, then unscrews his hands to reveal two powerful cannons. He loads them and unleashes an incredibly powerful salvo.

Hell’s Flash full power: The same attack as above, but at full power. It can be seen, for example, in Dragon Ball Fusions.

SOME ANECDOTES ABOUT C16…

Now let’s find out some interesting facts about Dr. Gero’s sixteenth cyborg! 📝

After being repaired by Bulma and her father, C16 now sports the Capsule Corp. logo. The Red Ribbon Army logo is no longer visible.
C16 shares many similarities with C8. For example, they’ve become friends, they’re tall, they love nature, and both have suffered tragic deaths. What’s more, their deaths provoke excessive anger on the part of Goku and Gohan. This anger even leads to victory in battle. 🥇
C16’s story is very similar to the character “Astro Boy” from another manga. He is a robot created in the image of his creator’s son.
It seems that C16 was resurrected thanks to the wish of the dragon of Namek, towards the end of the Buu saga. 🐲
