APPARENCE OF C-21

Androïde C-21 - Dragon Ball Fighterz
Android 21 was designed by Akira Toriyama. This character is described as a brilliant scientist, with curves and advantageous shapes. She wears glasses and has long, bushy auburn hair. She wears a gold ring on her left middle finger and has black nails. Her accessories include a pair of earrings, beautiful gold creoles and a short sleeveless blue and red dress. She also wears opaque black tights, black sleeves and blue and red heeled boots. Her eyes resemble those of other androids created by Dr. Gero, such as Android 18. 👀

In his true form, Android 21 retains his curved silhouette, his skin turns pink, his hair takes on a much lighter shade of pink, his ears become pointed and his eyes change depending on which evil part takes over, giving him a tail. Her outfit changes to a black tube top, with black sleeves on the arms, and she also wears white puffy pants. It’s worth noting that she looks more like a Majin in this form. 🥋

Her appearance in her true form is the result of accumulating the traits of Z-Fighters, Freezer, Cell and Majin Boo into a single being. C-21 reveals in a private conversation with the player in FighterZ that despite her adult appearance, she’s actually less than ten years old and regrets not having been able to experience adolescence, finding it awkward when young children call her “ma’am”. 😆

C-21 PERSONALITY

Androïde C-21 - Dragon Ball Fighterz
Due to her biology, Android 21 feels a natural and compulsive instinct to feed (which has become uncontrollable due to the insanity of her body’s cells). Like Majin Boo, she prefers candy and sweets, with a particular preference for macaroons. However, she has no control over her hunger and is constantly fighting not to turn her opponents into sweets and devour them. Her hunger is so intense and painful that it has ended up altering Android 21’s psyche and given her a dual personality. 🍬

The longer she goes without feeding, the more her perverse side takes over. But when she’s under the control of her true personality, she acts like a kind and maternal woman, caring for C-18 and even agreeing to help him. However, when her evil side resurfaces, she becomes a power-hungry sadistic sociopath, seeking to “devour” all powerful fighters, bordering on insanity. Her insatiable voracity for powerful fighters is similar to the traits of the Majins, inherited when Boo’s cells were added to her. His good side is friendly towards Gentle Boo, probably due to their shared biology and common love of sweets. 🍡

Androïde C-21 - Dragon Ball Fighterz
On the other hand, her perverse side attaches no importance to Android 16 and considers androids to have no value for such notions as family and loved ones, going so far as to order Android 18 to attack her husband Krilin. What’s more, she only appreciates Dr. Gero for his laboratories and research. Although her main focus is on food, the perverse side of Android 21’s personality doesn’t reject the <strong'idea of galactic conquest, although this remains secondary to her quest for satiety.

In contrast to her good side, the perverse Android 21 cares only about herself and possesses a selfish personality. Like Cell, her power leads her to regard others as inferior to herself in terms of power, even dismissing them as mere food designed to strengthen her. Although she is responsible for the creation of evil clones of the Z-Fighters, as well as Nappa, the Ginyu commando, Freezer, Cell (all of whom she resurrected thanks to the crystal balls of Namek) and Kid Boo, they are for her no more than an unsatisfying source of food to satisfy her hunger. 🍓

She only allows Z fighters, resurrected villains and androids to survive and grow stronger in order to pursue her goal of devouring them. However, she was enraged when the Z-Fighters and villains, led by Freezer and Cell, began eliminating clones to deprive her of her food supply, prompting her to hunt them down in a blind rage motivated by her hunger.

C-21 FAMILY

Androïde C-21 - Dragon Ball Fighterz
After successfully using fission following the intense emotion caused by the death of his adopted son, C-16, his personalities were split into two distinct halves. 🧒🏻

Although Android 21’s good side is aware that her human model was Android 16’s mother (which prompted her to develop maternal affection for him), she admits to having little or no memory of her past life as a human, although she likes to imagine the name and life her model might have had. 🙄

She is apparently unaware that Dr. Gero was the father of the C-16 model or of his relationship with her human model. In a conversation with the player in the Dragon Ball game, she mentions that her creator, although an evil person, was a brilliant scientist, and she would like to know the reason for his creation, even though she knows the answers might not be satisfactory or she might not want to know the truth. Curiously, she never directly mentions Dr. Gero’s name, although it’s obvious she’s referring to him. 🤖

THE TWO PERSONALITIES OF C-21

Androïde C-21 - Dragon Ball Fighterz
After separating from her benevolent half, the perverse version of C-21 scoffs at her good half’s refusal to feed on others to increase her power and is convinced that she is a hypocrite who will eventually give in to her hunger and devour her allies. However, the kindly C-21 manages to bond with the human soul that was associated with Android 18, enabling her to keep control of herself and resist her hunger. Nevertheless, the benevolent versions of C-21 fear losing control one day and so decide to sacrifice themselves to stop their evil half and avoid losing control and harming their new friends. 💑

Whis and Beerus noticed that the benevolent versions of Android 21 would eventually succumb to their hunger over time, which ultimately makes their sacrifice beneficial. However, it’s unclear whether the kindly C-21 could have permanently overcome her hunger, but perhaps she didn’t want to risk losing control of herself. The sacrificial aspect of kindly C-21’s personality recalls that of her adopted son, C-16.

BIOGRAPHY OF C-21

Androïde C-21 - Dragon Ball Fighterz

PREAMBLE

The story of Android 21 varies, and it seems that she herself doesn’t know the truth :

  • In one case, she claims she was originally a human earthling converted into an android by Dr. Gero. As a human, she had a son with Dr. Gero who became the model for the design of Android 16 🧬
  • In another case, C-21 claims to be a new type of Bio-Android, superior to Cell, built in the image of a human woman with the IQ of an adult, despite being less than ten years old. She regrets not having lived through her adolescence. 👶🏻

Over time, she has received the cells of many powerful warriors and intelligent seekers, including Boo’s cells. She says she doesn’t remember any details of her life as a human and finds it amusing to imagine what her name and life might have been. She doesn’t know why Dr. Gero created her as a unique new type of android, different from mechanical models (like C-16) and modified humans (like C-17 and C-18). Her benevolent side doesn’t know much about her creator (referring to him simply as “the scientist”), but she does know that he was an extremely intelligent person, although talking about him makes her want to cry. On the other hand, her evil side knows about Dr. Gero but has little interest in him or the android based on his son. 🙄
Androïde C-21 - Dragon Ball Fighterz
At one point, C-21 remembers having a son. When she realizes she wants to see him and have him by her side, she repairs Android 16 (the android whose design was inspired by her son) and expresses her desire to consider him her family. Android 21 is apparently unaware that Dr. Gero was the father of his human model’s son, so the exact nature of the relationship between Dr. Gero and his human version of C-16 remains unknown. When C-21’s cravings resurface, she activates the binding system to use her functions and control herself, suppressing her growing need to feed. Eventually, this leads her various versions to seek out Android 18 and Android 17 separately, in the hope of successfully linking them to another soul. 🌟

Androïde C-21 - Dragon Ball Fighterz
According to Android 16, at some point his mother C-21’s cells may have become unstable, resulting in his uncontrollable urges to feed. It’s likely that Majin Boo’s cells were responsible. Furthermore, Android 21’s hunger may be the result of his unique combination of Majin and Saiyan cells, as Saiyans and Majins are known to have large appetites. Her evil side may also be influenced by the combination of cells she acquired from Freezer, Cell and Kid Boo, as her evil side displays traits similar to those of Freezer and Cell, while showing signs of insanity similar to those of Kid Boo. Nor does the villainous C-21 reject the idea of galactic conquest, perhaps influenced by Freezer Cell. ❄️

It should be noted that the activation of the wave machine by his perverse personality, which regains control of his original personality, occurs only in the Android 21 arc timeline. His perverse personality controls and uses his original personality as a hostage to force Android 16 to serve it, although he rebels by binding a human soul to Goku in the Super Warriors arc timeline. He accidentally bonds with Freezer in the Enemy Warriors arc timeline. In the C-21 arc timeline, she works with C-16 to find a way to suppress his evil side and hunger. 🌭

C-21 IN DRAGON BALL Z: KAKAROT

Androïde C-21 - Dragon Ball Fighterz
The woman on whom Android 21 is based appears in the Kakarot game as “Woman Seeker”. During Vegeta’s training to become Super Saiyan, Dr. Brief introduces him to his new employee – the female researcher – by showing him the improvements made to the training room. 🌟

The researcher explains to Vegeta how the new training room works. Later, after working with Bulma on the Ginyu commando spaceship in which Goku had returned to Earth, the researcher calls Goku at Bulma’s request to inform him that Bonyu’s battle data has been recovered and could be used at any time. 💥

C-21 IN DRAGON BALL Z: FIGHTERZ

Androïde C-21 - Dragon Ball Fighterz

SUPER WARRIOR ARC

Giving a false version to Goku and Krilin, she pretends to be a researcher employed by the Red Ribbon Army who deserted with the help of Android 18, injured while protecting her from Cell, to avoid fighting them. His true intentions are revealed later when the Z-Warriors team defeats C-16, who turns out to have bound a human soul to Goku against Android 21’s wishes. Fighting with Cell ensues, and the soul eventually returns to Goku. C-21 then consumes the resurrected villains Nappa, the Ginyu commando, Freezer and Cell. Like Kid Buu, she is eventually defeated by Goku’s spirit bomb. However, questions remain about her and Android 16 🙄
The events of this arc seem to stop happening when the spirit returns to the beginning of events to possess someone else and find out more about the truth, at Whis’s suggestion. 💤

ENEMY WARRIOR ARC

Androïde C-21 - Dragon Ball Fighterz
C-21 and C-16 travel to the new planet Namek and use the crystal balls to summon Porunga and revive Freezer, Cell, Nappa and the Ginyu forces. Bringing the resurrected villains back to Earth, C-21 clones them before binding artificial souls to all of them, enabling her to control them. She eventually discovers that C-16 had unwittingly linked a human soul to Freezer. Android 21 sends C-18 to eliminate the villains, but she is defeated and freed. 💥

C-21 confronts the villains and expresses his openness to exploring galactic conquest before discovering that it was all a set-up to fool Krilin and Goku into believing that C-18 had been injured. After defeating Goku and Krilin, Freezer and Cell realize that C-21 has left and inform Goku and Krilin that they have been duped. C-21 decides to punish C-16 for betraying her by ordering him to kill his enemies. However, she knows he will be defeated and, after assuming his true form, 21 feigns helplessness, forcing Android 16 to protect her from Freezer. Finally, she’s furious at the loss of her clones, prompting her to consume the originals, the result of a plan devised by Freezer to force her to confront her enemies. 😲

Androïde C-21 - Dragon Ball Fighterz
She is then destroyed by Goku, Freezer and Cell with a combined energy wave after using Bulma’s machine at full power to regain enough power. After her death, the soul leaves Freezer who, with his henchmen and ally Cell, ends their truce with the Z-Fighters team, although the outcome of this confrontation is not shown.

The events of this arc seem to come to a halt when the spirit returns to the beginning of events to possess someone else and find out more about the truth. 💤

ARC OF C-21

Android 21 appears just after the process of bonding Android 18 and another soul. She then introduces herself to C-18’s inner soul and explains her status and the current situation, including how the clones created by the Red Ribbon army are running amok and destroying Earth. C-21 also asks the soul to communicate with Android 18. Subsequently, C-18, 16, 21 and Android 17 go in search of the clones. 🤖
Over time, however, C-21 begins to lose more control of herself, and it’s finally when Krilin arrives to rescue C-18 that she lashes out and attempts to engulf him. Fortunately, the group manages to subdue her with the help of the soul inside C-18. They then proceed to eliminate several clones. 🚨

Androïde C-21 - Dragon Ball Fighterz
When the group encounters Cell, who has been restored to full power thanks to bonding with an artificial soul, C-21 transforms into her true form and fights alongside C-18 and C-17, greatly antagonizing C-16. After the fight, she gives in to her impulses and attempts to devour Cell. As the soul tries to reattach itself to her, the entity inside rejects her. With no other choice, C-16 tries to stop it, resulting in her death by her own hand. Devastated at having killed the android inspired by her son, she finally pushes away the entity that had inspired nothing but fear for so long. 👊🏻

It is then revealed during a conversation between her two halves, the good and the evil, in the laboratory where the remote control for the wave machine is located, that it was her evil personality that activated the machine, allowing her original personality to regain control of their bodies through the waves, thus weakening her evil half. 😮

ANECTODES ON C-21

Androïde C-21 - Dragon Ball Fighterz

    • Android 21 is similar to Towa in that both are intelligent, attractive female scientists who appear as antagonists in the franchise’s video games. What’s more, both were created by series author Akira Toriyama. 💃🏻
    • She also resembles Arale Norimaki as both are exceptionally powerful female androids (able to rival Vegeta and Goku) who wear glasses (although 21 only wears her glasses in her human form). 👓
    • Android 21 is also similar to Lunch as both are attractive women with multiple personalities who appear first as antagonists and then as protagonists later on. Both characters were also designed by Toriyama. 👀
